Steal a Vermeer. Hide in Brazil for ten years. Then show up in Venice with a moustache.

I used to be a good designer. Then I quit.

The secret to find what to do in life is not a secret: all you need to do is to get some good 8-hour sleep everyday during 6 months or even a full year.
We are more body than mind, actually, and if the body is rested so the mind will.
It's not an easy thing to do (if it ever was), because most of us can't indulge taking the time off from what we suppose we're supposed to do, nor have we domesticated our body to go to sleep in proper time.
If you look back and try to find the times when you were most happy, you'll realize that those times match exactly the time when you could sleep for 8-hours straight, not bothering to wake up "on time". That period of inextricable bliss is commonly described as "weekend" now.
Thing is, you know the formula, but you're incapable of losing the time you know you must lose - which you're losing any way because you don't risk to lose it.

GTFO of the office. I'm wrapping up a year of freelancing from the beach after being in a similar spot of apathy... Highly recommended. Puts a whole new perspective on things while the batteries are charging. Probably won't go back tho...

There is no sea salt for sale here. Even though this is an island surrounded by super salty seas. You can move here and we can start a sea salt selling business. You can even design the packaging if you'd like.

I have an idea that might actually help you get back to design and actually appreciate the work (while keeping your quality of life)....
Get one or two clients on retainer (say around 1k USD per month), move to a cheap country near the beach (like thailand, brazil, Dominican Republic, Maldives, etc). Rent a cheap apartment (you can rent a condo on the beach in DR for 300 dollars a month these days).
You'll be happy walking on the beach everyday, working from a beach cabana on WiFi while zipping on coconut mojitos. I did it for a couple of months to reclaim my creative soul. Works wonders.
Peace...
