A co-worker passed this on to me... more tripe, or valid insight into trend design?

I fucking hate these articles, they leech the logos from their users, (qualification questionable since everyone willing to pay is invited) and if a certain number uses the tricks it's a trend. fuck them. fuck trends too. fuck logolounge, every page looks the same, where the point in that?

these articles are written by smalltime bloggers, making some money sat around in the underwear, trawling the web desperately for things to write about, they write for for hobby designers and small 'shop' style studios with no real clue.
smashing magazine is even worse.

What a wank article.
If anyone designs a logo around a "trend" the ought to be shot
- dMullins0
He hits the nail on the head three words in to your title -- "trend."
Successful, communicative design shouldn't follow trend. It should ameliorate the vernacular of modern and/or traditional aesthetics (based on the client at hand), while incorporating a strategic execution that meets and elongates the brand positioning and communications platform.
I found this to be less than insightful, and more of an exhaustive round-up of logos on LogoLounge, and a peep show into the benefits of being a member.
I don't want to go on and on about it, but very few of the logos he's sourced communicate anything about their brands while placed out of context on a white/black matte background.
I think he could have easily found something more interesting to write about, when talking about these. Why write about a trend? That immediately dates his article.
I didn't want to sound like an ass and say all this to my co-worker, but I wasn't surprised this is something she would think is a "great read," as she put it to me.
- You should tell your co-worker. film it, put it up on you tube...TheBlueOne

max_prophet: "By Bill Gardner".
I also love how they always insert some random work by Gardner Design at least once in their trendy lists.
