...please!
i am planning on visiting nyc in a few weeks and i've never been before. i'd like (economical) suggestions on which hotel/area to stay in so i can see the most museums and make the best out of the trip. any particular restaurants i must eat at? any places i absolutely must see?
i will also need to go to edison, nj for half a day for a wedding. i am not planning on renting a car.
any and all suggestions would be wonderful. thank you!

i would recommend this bed and breakfast place in brooklyn (carol gardens) for location (and more importantly price):

hotel: the more economical the better. i understand this is NYC so less then $100/night might be difficult. but whatever works.
how long: planning on staying for 5 days
what's important: museums, food, art scene, sight seeing, culture -- night life is least important.
- culture, art, food sights only happen at night, NYC is closed for repairs all day.e-pill
- these things can happen at night, sure. by nightlight i meant the bar scene, clubs, chicks -- the patrick bateman lifestyleemukid
- lifestyle. i live that enough as it is.emukid
- patrick bateman was from chicago7point34
- i have stayed at http://www.hotel17ny… before and its super cheap...but how about http://www.thepodhot…pixellette
- the pod had audio, ew.version3

What 500 a night? 200 night? 300? Whats your ideal? Whats wrong with people afraid to give dollar numbers. I am not going to rob you
- So just assault and battery then?locustsloth
- haha. ideally $100 a night but i realize that might be difficult. so as close to $100 as possible. that is what i was trying to say.emukid
- i am poor. feel free to rob me though.emukid
- You drink? Got healthy liver?JourNYC
- yes and yes. will drinking a lot reduce my hotel costs? if so, i am all for it!emukid
- it will reduce your standards to be sure, emu.
7point34 - drink until the gutter looks like a 5-star hotel7point34

don't forget to visit the memorial piece of sidewalk where e-pill broke his wrist after slipping on the ice.
it has more ambience, obviously, during the winter months, but do see if you have the chance.
e-pill can be found there sporadically at the gift shop. he'll sign your "i slipped on a piece of shit patch of ice on the way to an interview and all i got was this fucking t-shirt" tee

This is what I would suggest for hotels. See the link and see which hotel you want to be in. Ideally, midtown / timesquare works because its central and you can go to all the museum with an ease.
After you found a hotel, post some of the names here and we can tell you how good / shitty it is.
After, do not book through the site BUT call the hotel and ASK for 5 day discount. Usually cheaper.

try: http://www.lq.com
wont be $100 but it must be close to that. They have one in Manhattan and one just along the Queens bridge

And just say NO to Pod hotel. Unless you want to share bathroom / room with someone at the same price of an average hotel.

Hotel QT is now this one. Not sure if the rates are same but it was decent.

And fuck gershiwin hotel, unless you want bed bugs and rash

someone suggested Hotel 17 -- any good? http://www.hotel17ny.com/

what emu is too polite to mention is that he wants to know the best spots for scoring narcotics
- JourNYC0
That hotel would be cool, you were in to most night life in east village but far away from most of the museums
- emukid0
also, which museums are a must see in order of importance?
- JourNYC0
Moma
Met
Guggenheim Museum
Cooper-Hewitt Museum
New Museum
Whitney
