...please!
i am planning on visiting nyc in a few weeks and i've never been before. i'd like (economical) suggestions on which hotel/area to stay in so i can see the most museums and make the best out of the trip. any particular restaurants i must eat at? any places i absolutely must see?
i will also need to go to edison, nj for half a day for a wedding. i am not planning on renting a car.
any and all suggestions would be wonderful. thank you!

i would recommend this bed and breakfast place in brooklyn (carol gardens) for location (and more importantly price):

hotel: the more economical the better. i understand this is NYC so less then $100/night might be difficult. but whatever works.
how long: planning on staying for 5 days
what's important: museums, food, art scene, sight seeing, culture -- night life is least important.

don't forget to visit the memorial piece of sidewalk where e-pill broke his wrist after slipping on the ice.
it has more ambience, obviously, during the winter months, but do see if you have the chance.
e-pill can be found there sporadically at the gift shop. he'll sign your "i slipped on a piece of shit patch of ice on the way to an interview and all i got was this fucking t-shirt" tee

This is what I would suggest for hotels. See the link and see which hotel you want to be in. Ideally, midtown / timesquare works because its central and you can go to all the museum with an ease.
After you found a hotel, post some of the names here and we can tell you how good / shitty it is.
After, do not book through the site BUT call the hotel and ASK for 5 day discount. Usually cheaper.

wont be $100 but it must be close to that. They have one in Manhattan and one just along the Queens bridge

Hotel QT is now this one. Not sure if the rates are same but it was decent.
