Have you hit all the local shops on your own?
You should do that before you hire a recruiter. I would only hire a recruiter because the recruiter knows the person at a particular company that you cant get in touch with.

Recruiters are shady, stay away.

I been screwed over by recruiter about 10 times. And all my jobs has been though someone I know, linkedin or just random emails to recruiters and creatives at the work.

i started off using recruiters in ny.
artistan was my favorite.

Maybe some of you hate recruiters, but i've got my first break with recruiters. They were always helping and professional to me.

Screwed over how:
If a recruiter sends your work / resume to a company, the company can not hire you directly even though you submitted your work to them directly.
I had few recruiters who blanketed the city with my resume so I pretty much couldnt get a job directly anywhere. Also, I used few recruiters that recruiters started to fight and company refused to hire me through either recruiters.

Freelance in NYC is tough right now. 2/3 of business was cut. I have not been onsite in 5 months and 3 weeks. That is with emailing 7 agencies each Monday telling them I am open.
Keep the full time job for another year. Honestly.

Try these guys - they're not bad (or at least they weren't when I worked with them)
