Apparently real iraq vets are spitting fire about this film, calling it complete bullshit and far from the reality.
Thought it was a good movie but not Great movie. Was pretty much over the top bullshit, especially that sniper scene.
Its basically Point Break with a bomb instead of a killer wave and no plot what so ever.

Remarkable film - lots of anti-hero vibe - enjoy!

well, at least they didn't have him pick up a cereal box only to find it had a few wires coming out of it...

"There was plenty of politics in "Hurt Locker"; it just didn't need to hit you over the head with it.
The short scene in the cereal aisle of the supermarket is definitely a comment about geopolitics. The diversity of Iraqi characters and their equally diverse attitudes toward the American soldiers is also political. The socio-economic differences between the soldiers and the army psychologist was also socio-political. "

Pretty good. But I think I liked it because I knew nothing about the bomb techs in wars. This film definitely opened me up to how horrendous it really is, and how many different things you have to think about. Every object and every person is a threat.
There wasn't much substance, however. And I didn't think it was as suspenseful as people kept telling me it was. I found myself not caring so much if one of them died, particularly Jeremy Renner (although he had some touching moments). This film kept making it into the top 3 of top 10 lists for films of 2009, so maybe the problem was: expectation.
Not only that, but I have a disease where I must go online and absorb as much information about a film and its cast right after I watch it. So I found out a little too much about how inaccurate the film really is (bomb techs sniping, etc.). People who actually know about the military, firearms, and Iraq seem to abhor this film.
I would recommend seeing it anyway because it's unique.
And for the cereal aisle scene.

just saw this, I rather liked it. And as identity said it is not so very different from point break. But this one has addictive shockwaves.*

main character is like Pointe Break's Bohdi - except instead of wanting one more wave - it was a bomb

It was good - worth a watch. Not sure if it's 'oscar worthy' though. The style of filming - the kinda shaky at times and amatuerish quality kinda ruins the emotional impact of some of it for me. I also don't think some of the supporting cast really played up their parts that believably either. But still good - definitely worth a watch.

Was considering it but didn't look all that special.. but the reviews are like 95% aren't they?
That line in the trailer about his wedding ring and the "things that almost killed me" bit made me cringe.

Good. Tense and gripping in parts but very episodic. Not sure it's Oscar material though which it seems to be getting predictions for.

A good movie, thought it was a bit overrated but that might be just because I've heard too many people praise it.
