Probably gonna get the new iPhone tomorrow, never had an iPhone before, just wondering how much storage people get through on an iPhone, will the extra 16GB be a welcome increase or an unnecessary hit on the pocket.
I know this is a vague questions, if it helps, I will be taking pictures, possible video (not tons) and I guess I can delete, I also will have a few songs on there and audiobooks.
Appreciate any thought.

bigger is always better.
On my current 16gb, I only use about 25%. About 1000 photos and 10 audiobooks.

i have the 8 gig and it's plenty. i don't have a ton of music on it (because of the apps like pandora, last.fm, public radio etc.), which is a real space saver.
i would say 16 is plenty.

The camera MPX is bigger so maybe worth the 32? I dont know, I am getting 16 again.

iTunes is reasonably good at letting you choose what content you want to sync to the iPhone, so you might find 16GB plenty. For example I have hundreds of TED podcasts in iTunes, but I set iTunes to only sync the 'most recent 10 unwatched' TED podcasts to the iPhone, which works fine, there's always fresh stuff to watch without clogging it up...

16GB i reckon then, I probably don't want 32GB of data on a my phone anyway, as ribit points out, just a case of synching things with MBP.

The little ones are for poor people.

Mine is 8GB, it's always been too little for me. A few apps, a few albums, a few podcasts and video documentaries and there's little room left.
Also, the games and apps get more complex and weight more these days. I have a few dictionaries, one with sound files for pronounciation guide - these things take space.

can you do video on the iphone?

I'm not an iphone user but I have the ipod touch. I cheaped out and bought the 8gb version, but i love it and i use it all the time and now i'm wishing i had 16gb.
like others have said, games and apps take up a decent amount of space after a while.

16 gig is plenty. 32 gig is for the future. An average movie is about 1 gig - 1.5 gigs. It's actually over kill atm.

if you only have 8gb, you're always going to aspire to 32gb.
If you had 32gb, you'll not likely to bitch about wanting to have 8gb.
(Apparently the same principle applies to penis sizes)

Not really, when I had iPod 60GB it was too small as well.

ive got 8 and am no where close to filling it up. but then again I don't use it as a traditional mp3 player...there are zero songs on it. zero videos as well. come to think of it, i'm not really using my iphone to the best of its abilities...
get the 16.

Do 02 do that thing where they will give you money to buy you out of your contract if you are on another network?
Sadly(?) I'm really tempted to get a 16GB 3G S today, but have a few months left on my Vodafone contract. I can cope with having a new number but being an alleged grown up I should be more responsible when it comes to things like running two contracts parallel to each other...
Hmmm...
