Far from underrated and any skater knows that Mullen paved the way for most of the street skating tricks we see today. When I used to watch the old Powell videos it never was Hawk, Mountain, or Cabellero who I got excited to watch. It was Mullen and Per Welinder.
- +5. per was amazing. i had a mcgill deck myself. shame he was such a fucking tool.airey

To be honest I don't think rodney's that underrated. I mean he's had his own video game character for like 10 years now.
now john cardiel... that dude's underrated!

Mullen is FAR from underrated. Almost every up-and-coming as well as established skaters gives massive props to Mullen.
The Mutt is practically single-handedly responsible for street technical skating.

there are a lot of unterrated skaters but definitely not rodney mullen!
today people do techstuff down huge rails and gaps...
rodney skates more freestyle but that discipline died in the early 90s i think. anyway he is a great skater.- I guess freestyle tech isn't as marketable as getting huge air.dMullins

underrated by skaters over 18, no. i'm 31, and have been skating for forever. this past weekend, however, i was at the 5boro back to banks competition, and i heard someone say something like "rodney mullen was the first to blah blah blah" and like 4 kids were like "who's that?"
i now sound old. that is all.
- blasphemy! kids need to learn who pioneered that shit.baseline_shift
- they got to learn this shit sometimelazerbass

Wasn't the modern deck based on Mullen's freestyle board back in the day?

i think he just looks gay when he fiddles around with the wheel board like that

Absolute legend. I had a poster of him on my wall since when he was doing freestyle and vert was all the rage. Then it seemed like he went away for a while only to reappear in Second Hand Smoke doing darkslides and making everyone look bad. Rodney rules.

"kids need to learn who pioneered that shit".
hahahaha.
they should probably know their history fullstop. you know, crazy shit like presidents or prime ministers (depending on where they're from), what started the world wars, what makes the middle east such a hotbed what the EU means to the world, why nato is a waste of time, how bush jnr stole the first election, etc etc. you get the picture.
rodney mullen was part of the first wave and will always exist in the history of the sport if anyone cares but let's get a fucking grip and just a modicum of perspective lol.
