is it true about the thiefs? a few my friends told me its crazy quantity of thiefs are in barcelona....Did you have an accident?
Also, they offer drugs, everywhere!
- airey0
all spaniards are thieves. true story.

Two friends of mine had their stuff stolen in Barcelona (passport, money, credit cards, Ipod, phone etc).
But I think its basically all down to how careful you are with your stuff. Just dont leave your shit out on a table when you are sitting at a restaurant and you'll probably be fine.
But yes it does seem to be a little worse than most places.

same as any big city, don't look lost or an obvious tourist, watch your stuff around las ramlas etc been loads of times would rather walk through Barca at night on me own pissed than get the night bus in london

Don't go on the metro.
And take your tags off your bags before you get out of the airport.
- de4k0
go on the metro.
enjoy yourself, just be vigilant.

I was there a few weeks ago, had no theft at all, used the metro all the time late into the evening and didn't feel worried or threatened at all. It was lovely. I'm from London so I guess I'm used to being careful with my stuff I guess

never really noticed this aspect of the city until I got bladdered on my birthday and had my pocket picked a week before I left. To be fair, I would picked my own fucking pocket I was such an easy and obvious target that night. Just don't be an obvious idiot pissed, careless tourist and you'll be fine. Its very safe compared to any british city anyway in my experience.
Petty theft just doesn't seem to be a big deal there, but violent crime isn't as fashionable as over here

I'm heading to Sonar next week, I can imagine after a few hours of hard day-time partying, vigilance will probably be quite least of my worries!!!
- kelpie0
helv did you ever see the episode of natures great event recently when the herring are corralled into balls near the surface of the ocean by dolphins in a feeding frenzy, then all the seabirds come down at them from above and the whole ball of fish is devoured in about 5 minutes flat, none of them standing a chance?
That's you after Sonar by Day in El Raval mate, surrounded by rabid Moroccans and 13 year old Chilean hookers
- Hahahahaha!!!!uncle_helv
- the prossies that mugged my mate were like pigeons pecking at his spare change after they knocked him to the groundkingsteven
- ...he scarpered in the confusion.kingsteven
- no fg way!, 8 years old bolivian hookers...creez
- digdre0
yes. check for you wallet every 5 mins.
I almost got 'pick-pocketed' in the metro
- kingsteven0
yep, over for Primavera last week one of my mates got mugged 3 times in one night. Another had his MBP stolen from his apartment, and his ticket for the festival pick-pocketed the next day! Unsane.

I almost got pick pocketed twice last time I was in Barcelona, cowards legged it when I rumbled them. Also, a mate of mine was with his gf and they were sat on a bench when a guy grabbed a bag of theirs and ran, my mate chased him for ages before the guy dropped it and carried on running.
Massive generalisation but I found the people in Barcelona to be rude, pushy and unpleasant. Obviously I know they are not all that way, but that was my experience.
- actually they are pretty much all that way, its just their style. you get into it eventuallykelpie
- BaskerviIle0
I realised why I never get pickpocketed – I always wear skinny jeans, I can barely get the wallet out of my pocket myself, so there's no chance of anyone else managing it
- digdre0
when we went to barcelona with my class, they stole a purse of a girl in my class, her bag was sliced with a knife or something..
I almost.. we were in the metro and I was calling with my iPhone, my bag on the ground with my foot onto it, there was that guy on the left of me, and I think a friend of his on my right, looking at eachother and doing very weird... .
Also, i think you should keep your money or wallet not in your backpocket, but the front one.. thats safer imo..when i went into a metro i always checked if i had everything, when I stepped out, same.
- keeping your wallet in your back pocket is the most unsafe seen ever!!creez
- digdre0
unrelated note:
it's funny to see, when it starts raining, all the india guys are outside the metro selling umbrellas!!
- isakosmo0
got my bag stolen there, best mate got her bag stolen too on a different occasion. big market for stolen passports there apparently too

I live in Barcelona and to be fucking honest, you have to be blind, careless or be fucking wasted to be robbed in Barcelona.
Or doing the silly things most brits do here which are:
- Buying drugs in Ramblas/Raval/Gotic being drunk to people who don't sell drugs (they get robbed)
- Picking up ugly hookers from Africa
- senseg0
so just avoid ramblas when ur drunk? :)
