I recently purchased a new car (subaru forester) and I want to be able to play my ipod. I used to have one of those fm transmitters but I hated it. The car has a cd and tape player. Besides purchasing a new stereo, what are my options?

take it to best buy and have them hook it up from the inside... that's what they did to my friends old VW
- that only works if the stereo has auxillary inputs, thoughmonospaced

FM transmitters are complete shite. My experience has always been that they produce more static and listenable music.
The tape deck converter thing is a decent option, but one time I was using one in my friend's car on a long drive and it got really hot. I mean like almost too hot to touch. Not sure what happened, but we stopped using it before it fried his stereo unit. So beware, I guess.
Buying a new stereo faceplate with a line-in might be cheaper than you think. I got mine installed for around $175, and that was 3 years ago.

I just use the tape option until I can get something more fancy. Works quite well.
I bought this one:

I have both the tape and FM adapter. Most of the FM ones suck but the one I use now works pretty good. I think it's a griffen.
But I have a 15 minute or less car commute. It's not worth untangling all the wires and plugging it in for such a short drive.
