I Hate the Marketing Department

So I deal with a marketing director here at work. Director is probably not a fair title to give her. "Sharp Pain in My Anus" is more apt. We work on ideas for campaigns all the time. She lacks any - I give mine to her. That's how things start off. After I get moving on design, she puts together documentation for the message. It of course arrive late. That documentation changes so many times through the course of design, buildout, production, etc., that any interest I had in the campaign itself dies a violent, bloody, torturous death. Feedback on anything i put together always gets to me insultingly late. She literally sits with my designs shoved up her ass for days, before letting know what she thinks.
After I realized she was like this for everything, I started getting anxiety pains whenever she called to ask about a new campaign idea she needed my help on.
I need some kind of relief from this. Today I have gotten violently upset. I'm talking physically enraged. I long for a boxing gym to open nearby so I can enroll immediately as therapy. Having some large, fast, unfriendly ex-con beat me about the face would be more enjoyable than the thrashing my work gets after it's made its way through her lower intestines.
Aargh. The bile. I hate work today. I hate what I do right now. I would rather work in a vet clinic clearing the anal glands from aging pets.

well, we all know this is not unusual or new. Every agency has idiots like this, who sometimes are inexplicably ignorant and dumb and working on campaigns and with clients that deserve somebody that knows what he/she is doing. Make sure you let her know YOU are the one that knows, YOU are the one that has studied this shit and YOU are the one that does this for a living. She prob took what, 1 art history class in college? Confront her and make her understand she knows shit about this and to let you do your job.
Or, start doing the same to her, critique everything she does and make her look like an idiot and ignorant cunt in front of everyone - this shouldn't be too difficult.
- she bought CS4 creative suite. I had to ask her to stop designing.zenmasterfoo
- hahaha! fucking people like that make me sick...OSFA

Communication is key. Talk to the cunt about the issues - workflow and efficiency - instead of internalizing them. Make sure to keep it business not personal.
- always good advice.zenmasterfoo
- I agree. However there are some bastards that are just so unlikeable that they're not worth talking to.Melanie

Maybe you do take it a little personal...go out for a drink and try to get to know her better personally and vice versa, start instilling the idea that you guys are a team and your desire to bring nothing but success to this team, it can break the hierarchy and put you eye to eye and hopefully open the dialogue a bit more. we've all been there though...stay strong and intelligent!
- Never give up! Never surrender!zenmasterfoo
- then get her pissed and do her up the ****. she'll never contact you againcalculator

Working for women is almost always miserable.
Women make terrible bosses.
- amen to thatjammyfin
- I"ve worked for several. other than one, i found them all to be great bosses. especially as production managers.....exador1
- do you need to go there? men and women can suck as bossestwokids

when it comes to female bosses you have to fuck them and then they chill out
- exador10
I'll just say it again here...I've had more than a few women bosses over the years, and aside from one (not a boss, but exactly what zen is going through, a marketing manager) I've had great working relationships with all of them...
probably the best of which was one lady I worked for that was the head of production at an advertising firm....She as brilliant...fought the sales guys daily on behalf of her dept. making sure they didn't offer the client the moon on a friday night and expect us to work all weekend...she was awesome...absolutely loved working for her....

sounds like you unfortunately have the evil combination; someone who is both arrogant and incompetent. there is no hope for you except leaving...finding a way to not have to work with this person.
my guess is that she tends to say 'I'd like to see....." or "I'd like more of this..." as if it were a personal art project, and you are her hands....is this accurate at all?
whenever that happens...run...its never good and if you go to war you will lose...unless you have pictures.

i was hired as a creative web designer by the marketing manager at my last company. it soon dawned on me that it was actually a web developer that they were looking for and i found myself designing fuck all and instead spending hours using excel and mysql. 5 months later my contract is terminated. honestly, the best feeling of my life, that job ruined me, it's the worst job i've ever had. that includes washing dishes in a restaurant haha. they've now advertised for a web developer. idiots
- I've had jobs like that. Takes a while to get the passion back.Melanie

STOP WORKING FOR ADVERTISING AGENCIES
or shut up

I strongly believe that in almost all cases of this type there is either a tragic and fundamental break down in communication, borne of a lack of understanding of each other's goals and each other's roles, or there is a failure of somebody other than you two to set a clear guiding strategy that keeps both of you working toward the same thing, together, in clearly defines roles within your projects.
She's probably not that horrible a girl, and she probably thinks you are a cock who is making her job hard to do, because you don't understand the forces at work in her position. Not that I'm saying you are, of course
