Hard Drive Question

I installed a HD and it wouldn't pass the S.M.A.R.T. test. I did an extended test and the results was that there were bad sectors and it asked if I want to repair. I went ahead with repair and it passed the S.M.A.R.T. test.
Should I exchange it? I just bought it less than a week ago. This is would be the main HD hosting the OS and programs as well as my files.

error so soon, sounds bad. i would return it.
- Yeah, it's never happened, but I've never bought a 500GB HD before. I think I will return it.kgvs72

which one did you get? brand, type?

sounds fine. it may have simply fragged slightly with inhouse testing.

Return it with the test results and they should swap it over no questions asked. Don't start putting all your digital 'valuables' on something that's spitting back read/write errors from the word go. That's a recipe for disaster.
For portability, or for people storing large quantities of porn and movies etc I think a single hard drive is fine. For storing business data, a RAID1 storage device is a better way to go. Then you'll never be on here complaining about how the one and only copy of all your data just died... it costs a bit more, but that's what you pay for peace of mind.
