Indigo vs. spot colors

So, I've got this dilemma.
For my wedding invitations, I have a printer friend who has the exact paper that I want (left over from another job), and is willing to basically give the rest of the ream to me to print my pieces. The issue is that he only has an Indigo press, and I designed my invitations as a 2-color affair. However, the price is very, very reasonable.
So, should I go with it or spend the (considerable) extra money somewhere else on paper, spot colors and film? Will the quality difference between solid spot colors and CMYK builds really going to matter to anyone but me. And, before anyone says it, the spot colors I am using are well within the CMYK gamut, so they will not be difficult to match.

are your spot colors close to any CMYK used as their 100%
you could slightly adapt your design to fit the CMYK, after all it's up to you (+printer friend giving extra paper which is very kind).- No, both are mixtures with nothing more than 65%duckofrubber

i just went through this... (not for my invites, but for a friend). unfortunately for someone on a budget, the price just can't be beat. in general, the bride and i were thrilled with the reproduction. the main buttery color looked fantastic. the darker marigold was not as successful - just that bit of magenta dotpattern on finer type was not "perfect".
obviously, we will be MUCH more in tune with printing nuances than most of your invitees. (of course, your designer friends may get out a loupe!). it comes down to you as a (picky) designer and your wedding budget.
- Yes, this is what I worry about. Just enough dots in something to bother me because it's not solid.duckofrubber

Wow, lots of multiple posts on here. I think I broke newstoday...

I'm also paying for this wedding mostly myself (a little help from each group of parents), so the price savings alone is incredibly tempting.

indigo's support pantones last i heard...they def do spot colors. have you asked the printer about this?
- They support pantone color matching through screened builds, but not actual spot colors.duckofrubber

There won't be a problem with matching the pantones. Indigo presses are very high-quality. My issue is that there won't be solid color on the sheet like you would get with spot colors. Instead, it will be mixtures of dots, which is not the same. The color will technically be spot on, but the 'feel' of it is different. Of course, no one will notice but me, I'm sure...
- are any of your colors "iffy" like this? do you have the flexibility (design wise) to modify any iffy colors? i'd be more than happy to look at & give my opinion if you want...loop
- Not sure, none have a tint higher than 65% though...duckofrubber
- i don't think that would matter as much as the specific end color you are trying to achieve. my problem gold was a pretty strong color - just not ideal in dots...loop

true true, i'm sure they will be lovely and no one will notice...
good luck and congrats ;)
