I'm just hoping Pascal LeClaire can be the goalie the Sens have always needed. *sigh*

I went to the Penguin/ Blackhawk game in Chicago back in late February or early March.
Malkin won it in OT. :D
If the Penguins make the Finals, I will be traveling to either Detroit (went last year) or Chicago. If the Ducks win, I probably would not travel to California... but you never know.
- The Penguin's squeeked out against 2 very good teams. They have yet to play the best in the division.calcium

Something about the Chicago team just bugs me. I am leaning towards the Pens now. I really don't want to see Detroit win ANOTHER cup this year, but I suppose its good for the morale (and small degree the economy) of the city. Detroit needs all the help and hope they can get right now. :(

The two key moments in last night's game where the momentum could have shifted were both Ovechkin plays:
-Ovechkin on a breakaway at the start of the game and Fleury stones him; that goal goes in and it could have changed the entire composition of last night's game.
-Pens are on a powerplay, up 4-0; Ovechkin scoops the puck, skates into his defensive zone killing time, then moves into the Caps offensive zone trying to make a play, but gets double-teamed and turns the puck over; Crosby recovers and scores. At that point the Caps were dead in the water.
- That last one is heartbreaking for teams.juhls
- You could almost hear a pin drop when Ovechkin had that breakaway, the cheers for the save were louder than Crobsy's first goal.flavorful
- At the bar I was at of course, haha.flavorful
- I wonder if Fleury will be part of the Olympic team. There may be older and more consistent goalies though.juhls
- I think Ovechkin still has more points than Crosby, but obviously that will change after this next series.juhls
- Fleury is a bit less on than he was in the playoffs last year. Still rock solid, but not the top goalie currently playing.blaw
- Yea, Fleury was almost unconscious until the Finals last year, not so thus far.flavorful
- But still very good. Ovechkin also had a Game 7 last series, so he has played one more game than Sid.flavorful

Man what a game for the Pens last night!
If them and the Ducks go all the way, I'll get to go to a game!

So, now that The Ducks have been sent home, the Red Wings play the Blackhawks. I think those Second City scufflers are intimidated by the sheer awesomeness of the Detroiters.
Anyone with any sense would be, I suppose.

there will be fights at the Chicago/Detroit games, in the stands I mean. Mark my words.
- *marks words...NotByHand
- No. No, there will not, haha.flavorful
- I've been to both places to watch games, fans are nothing but cordial, hockey knowledgeable folks who are quicker to call out their own fans for being assholes than security.flavorful

is it just me or did it sound a bit like the bruins fans were chanting "We want head! We want head!" ?

What a crazy game. I feel bad for Thomas, as he is an amazing goalie.
I think Carolina has a lot of momentum behind them as well, so it should be a good series against the Pens.
- juhls0
Also, I heard the commentators speaking about giving Cam Ward a really good position for the Olympics. I'm not so sure. He really reminds me of Fleury in that both goalies can be amazing, but are very inconsistent. But perhaps when it comes to crunch time (ie. playoffs, Olympics, etc.) they can pull through.

Carolina only wins the Cup whenever they make the playoffs, haha.
This is going to be great for Eric and Jordan to go head-to-head.
Brind'amour is hurt, so that is going to severely fuck up Carolina. Ward has potential to shut down everything too.
Man. Man, oh man. * Books ticket to Raleigh for next weekend.

I think a lot of people have the wrong impression of hockey, and their fans. Most people outside of hockey hate fighting, but don't understand it ensures that people like Crosby, Ovechkin, and back in the day, Gretzky and Lemieux do not get overtly cheap-shottéd, and taken out. It's a way of policing their own, and making it blatantly obvious that any minor/ major penalty will result in severe and repeated reminders to not do that.
Most people assume fighting on the ice (which happens rarely, all things considered [unless you're a Flyer]), translates to fighting in the stands. Not so, not so by a long shot.
Exceptions in terms of crowds would be, again the Flyers (no-nothings), and the Boston crowd (really not that far off from Philly in all sports, except their teams are decent). Actually I'd throw Toronto in that mix too.
Though to Maple Leaf fans credit, their team blows and they still travel to see them. I had a blast with them last year at a pub in Pittsburgh watching the EPL in the waking hours for most people over here.
They came to literally see Crosby play in person, and stayed overnite to catch football before heading back. They talked about fights they were in and everything, and we joked about all types of shit, even though I was a Penguin (and Arsenal) fan, haha.
