I got a 24 inch imac and the logic board has just gone on it. Apple say at least £500 to replace it. Nice. Thing is it happened whilst in a repair shop, they were only removing a stuck disc, otherwise it worked fine!

I'm was actually thing about getting the new MacPro but thought that a better option would be the MBP with an ACD (30" would be nice whenever it gets updated). Does anyone here have a MBP w/ monitor setup? How do you like it? Do you think that's the best way to go? I like the idea of portability in a laptop. I'd be using it for Flash, AE, most of the CS products, and dabbing in C4D.

that was exactly my setup, fyoucher.. mbp 2.16 with 3gb ram and 24" screen - kept going to the limit all day.. cs apps were all slow as f***
looking forward to mac pro now :)

Even the last two revisions of the previous gen. MB Pro take up to 8GB RAM (works best with 6GB, only uses 4GB if you install 8GB)

Re: Tomkat
Really? So you don't recommend getting a new MBP and a monitor? Do you have a new MBP? I'm on a Dell Workstation now (dual 3.2 Zeons, 4 GBs or ram, and dual 24's) but Vista makes CS3 run slow as shit for some reason. I've been looking to switch back to Mac for a looong time though. MBP 17" price versus MacPro price is just about the same. MacPro kills MBP in terms of performance. But it'd be nice to be able to unhook the laptop (especially with the new mini display port adapter) and work in bed or study upstairs to get out of the office....Hmmm...

Hackintosh Q6600 + 4 gigs ram + 10.5 + RAID + good graphics card = cheap but good!

I love my MBP. I think it's great for anything except massive retouching work on RAW files, which I don't do much of anyway. I wanted the 17" but couldn't justify the added expense right now. Besides, I got my 15" with the RAM upgrade and larger disk space, so it works just as fast as the 17". More portable, too.
Got the glossy screen, which I like but man is dust really noticeable.

@fyoucher
it's good, but I just don't wanna have the computer at 95% all day any more - MBP+screen is great, it's just that I have virtual machines and 10+ apps open all day.. macpro is the better way(plus I have the mbpro as my 2nd computer, which is great :)
