well deserved EC - excellent work

I was looking at this site last week. I found it really frustrating to grapple with until various (now obvious seeming) things clicked into place and then I quite liked it except for the high number of clicks needed to see a broad spread of work.
They seem to have changed the direction of the business from when they started out, or did that happen a while back. I went to see them when they first launched and they more like a conduit between clients and creatives, sort of like a casual, contract free rep agency/creative brokerage.
Now though they just seem to be more like a 'closed shop' creative art direction facility judging by the work credits. Or am I missing something.

Do I really have to click my own back button to go back to the menu?
- Horp0
Thats what pissed me off for a while but you can click back to "Portfolio" and start again. Still not great, but better than it first seems. I sat there back clicking for a good 10 minutes before it finally clicked it could be done a slightly easier way.

YEah but I was looking through the company info and then wanted to go to the portfolio.... which you cannot do without your own back button.
Crap for Google bots to navigate...

From a work point of view: excellent, well crafted, love it!
From a design perspective: the website is a little bit awkward, clunky and a bit on the ugly side, but then again I am viewing it through Safari.

it's a pretty non-conformist interface. maybe it's a step too far, or maybe it just doesn't work? i just couldn't work it out in a reasonable amount of time.
what are they trying to prove?

Is Adrian Shaughnessy still apart of this?
His name didn't come up in the search.

it was already done years ago
http://www.vandejong.nl/index.ht…although they did change it a year ago to make it a bit more accessible [they initially never had any of the images you now see on the homepage]
- actually they never had anything other than the search menu..neue75_bold
- Actually I remember someone doing it before them, but same-same.Anders
- You'll need a lot of work (and words) for it to make any real sense.Anders
- b-something.. or 72b or something from rotterdamjanne76
- yep, 75b also had this interface a couple of years ago.neverblink

I have to agree it is a bit clunky in places. not sure about the loading of images, and the white box, is it going to move across or not
I don't think the transitions work very well when loading the images for the portfolio pages, seems heavy to me... it doesn't seem as slick as the landing page...

well i like the simplicity, even though it seems a bit buggy when viewing pictures in full.
I think they will miss out on alot of users leaving due to no menu, but i dont really know what their point is with this website.
What does this represent/mean "./" anyone know? or is it just some random shit coz it looks good

site is junk.
content is nice.

I hate the navigation
- yes. if qbn web-heads cant navigate it nobody canbaseline_shift

de-construct.com did something like this, but better years back
- haffeera0
I actually remember that site

If the search should have any real function, the site should contain more tags or info on their work. I presume that the reason for this searchbox is to baffle the user, making us think of an alternative google or like using a complex contactform as a graphic element.
Is this real art, is this really navigation..

Yeah i think the idea is to make the user think/interact instead of showing him an easy way which would be a menu. But to me this is complete bull since internet users are lazy, and if it seems too challenging they are gonna scim/scan and move.
