funny you should post this, i'm 10hrs into a similar 1 page project that client thought would be a quickie friday afternoon job.
long list of revisions in front of me, what was suggested by client at 4hrs will be billed closer to 18hrs. s'fine with me.
and yes i agree with comments regarding a min charge/ day rate... mine is a half day/ 4hrs.

either charge them $500 or by the hour.

and absolutely don't let any client tell you how long a project will take, unless of course it works in your favor.
2-3 hrs?! you're setting yourself up for being walked all over... in many ways.

Clients don't make hour estimates. You do.
- "but we'll see"i_monk
- no.
you tell THEM how long it's going to take, and how much you're charging per hour...that's an estimate.monospaced

footnote: scotch, skt's comment was a clever rejoinder to your post
"I don't do any work whatsoever, unless it's pro bono, for less than my day rate. It keeps the stupid little piddly jobs off my desk. It also makes clients think twice about what they really need. If they balk at the cost, then they aren't the sort of people I'd want to work with anyway."- quite funny, I thinkmagnificent_ruin

if he knows how much time you'll spend, have him do it. otherwise give him your estimate and be done with it.
- monospaced0
Work on it for 3 hours, and give them whatever you have done in that time. When they complain that it's incomplete and/or to make revisions, they'll have to pay you for more hours.
I probably wouldn't do that to one of my clients, but it sounded funny to suggest it in this thread.

So when should we expect to see the site? I'm sure between you and skt it will be good.
- Less than 10 days, I hope.Scotch_Roman
- Maybe 2 weeks. skt is far along with the interface, now he needs images from me.Scotch_Roman

Last bit of advice (especially with relatively insignificant jobs like this):
Write up a simple contract. Have them agree that any creative revisions after the first version is delivered will result in extra hours.
The reason is that they assume that you can read their minds. They think that after 2-3 hours you'll have their dream mailer designed and delivered. These are the very same people who are hard to please.

2-3 hr job. lol.
small agency charge around 150 bucks per hour. even with that price, that's a pretty cheap brochure.
- akrokdesign0
on the other hand, their budget (or what they think its valued) might only be 200. so its up to you.

I don't do any work whatsoever, unless it's pro bono, for less than my day rate. It keeps the stupid little piddly jobs off my desk. It also makes clients think twice about what they really need. If they balk at the cost, then they aren't the sort of people I'd want to work with anyway.
I say that now. Ask me in 6 months if I still don't have a job. ;)
- speakng of which... i've upped my cost to my day rate * the number of days I have spent on it. you now owe me $3000.skt
- also, your menu is in and working now. same link as before. i'm going to need content soon.skt
- Say what? I hope you're joking...Scotch_Roman
- I'm close to being done with the images, at any rate. Have to shoot 3 more projects, but those can be uploaded later.Scotch_Roman
- Check your email...Scotch_Roman
- I hope you're taking the piss, that's twice the price we agreed on.Scotch_Roman

No way it is 2-3 hours. Not a chance. Unless they have all of their assets ready to go, text is written and will need no revisions, they will take whatever you give them without design revisions.... Ever heard of a client that is capable of that? I sure have not.
