Explain how it is funny, what wit is being used here? What does the Chimp have to do with the stimulus bill?
- That it's so inane a chimp must have written it? I suppose that's gag, along with the chimp attack news story.harlequino
- I see that, but to think that the Post didn't know some people would think it is racist is foolish.DrBombay
- Agreed, but you know...it's the Post.harlequino

Georges is black?

The Bush/Chimp pics only reinforce how this is in really bad taste. Double standard? No. The Bush/Chimp pics are EXACTLY the same as the comparisons between black people and monkeys. They reduce him to a subhuman, unintelligent animal. It's the kind of propoganda that propogated racism here. On second thought, maybe if we're now able to compare white people to monkeys without being scolded, we truly are post-racial.

Did Obama write the bill? He signed it, and for the sake of this discussion let's assume he read it - unlike the vast majority of the Congress.

Come on! is this racist?

From now on I'm fucking Swiss!

When I read the comic I understood the reference the paper was making by illustrating police shooting the chimpanzee, but I find it not necessarily racist, but definitely insulting, and in poor taste.
At least in my mind I did not make the 'this cartoon represents Obama as a monkey' connection, I think it was just a particularly class-less way of making a crack about two separate issues.

- oh I see what you did there..zenmasterfoo
- I didn't make it.juhls

I had read the monkey article, so I made the connection. Never had I thought about Obama in the picture. If you're not racist, I don't see why you'd even consider this to be.

I equate phrases like this with being ignorant:
"If you're not racist, I don't see why you'd even consider this to be."
Ironic, I know.

Ha ha ha... Rupert Murdoch has had to apologise for this... (I guess it was racist after all..!)
- SillyBilly0
No way can Fox News, Rupert Murdoch, Neocons and or the Republican party ever be racist, that is just absurd.
- flashbender0
so, it is perfectly fine to compare bush to a chimp, but when it is even remotely implied with regards to Obama all the attention seekers scream racism? shocking.
- That was already posted. I just wanted to put it up again and look smart-ish.flashbender

This was an example of disingenuous racially motivated baiting. Anyone who can't see this is most likely pretending to be obtuse - either that, or they genuinely are thick-as-shit.
- thick as a brick7point34
- or dumb-as-shitSillyBilly
- stupid-as-fuck?anxious_arms

Flashbender, it's rather simple.
Bush = Monkey
Comparisons drawn on his general dumb looks and sub-par intelligence.Obama = Monkey
Comparisons drawn on racism. Plain and simple.- i think that's what Flashbender is already saying. that it's not shocking that the world thinks it's racist.anxious_arms

FFS, did everyone wake up not rascist today,
_
Rupert Murdoch has personally apologised for the New York Post cartoon that critics labelled as racist for likening a violent chimpanzee shot dead by police officers to Barack Obama. The News Corporation chairman and chief executive issued a statement today in which he said the cartoon was intended only to mock Obama's economic stimulus bill, which the Post considered to be a badly written piece of legislation, but that it had turned out to be a mistake because it had offended so many.

ok,
are you glad now, he apologised,__________________end of thread___________________
