i've heard it from somewhere....that there are torrents of lynda dvd video....
shhhhhhbut $25 a month isn't much at all thats only like 2 pack of cigarette for me. plus you get to view the entire video library.
- the only problem with the $25 membership, or downloading vids is that they dont come with working files.anxious_arms
- and for lessons like 3D and some flash you really need the files.anxious_arms

lynda.com is great, IMO.. but for visual learning.
Development isn't really something you can just watch and learn since it's very logical and problem solving. It's better to have a reference/example book you can look up and flip through and learn as you go. Obviously there are things that will work great for visual learning such as structures, flow, and sample of changes in realtime, but watching someone type <...h...t...m...l...> is kinda lame :)
However to see how to place photos in InDesign or Animate a box in Flash--it's wonderful.
- ah, but you can learn about best practices from people who WORK in the field. I like that.anxious_arms

i've said it before and i'll say it again, you can write off the cost of lynda.com when you do taxes. that's awesome!

this is old, but i just stumbled on it via fallow's recent post.
i bought a subscription recently, about three months ago, it's still active. i don't use it as much as i had hoped, but when i do need it, it's there, which is quite nice.
in my opinion (from my experience with it), their stuff is great for learning a program from front-to-back, but if you're already familiar with an app, and just need tips or tutes on quick things, you can google for free.
i still wont cancel my subscription, but i do think you could get roughly the same effect for free online, depending on exactly what you need though.
- I do a "search" on lynda.com

I havent signed up yet, I used the free account and its pretty good, also to go over stuff if you dont get it the first time.
I think its a great starting point to learn some AS3, as I picked up a book but got lost in the first few pages so lynda.com is pretty good!

i have been using lynda.com for the last year. it has proved very useful.
>> I needed to learn a few things about after effects; puppet and depth of field - and i easily found a tutorial that walked me through it
>>I needed to learn Captivate quickly. I had 3.0 and the training was 2.0, but it didn't matter, in a couple of hours I learned everything I needed to learn
>>I wanted to learn AS3 for the first time and I went through several tutorials that gave me an excellent start.
>>After several years of not working directly with web pages, I needed a refresher is CSS. In a couple of hours, I was back up to speed.
True, you can find free tutorials for just about anything online, but for convenience, if you can afford it, not a bad way to go.
I'd be interested to know if anyone know of any competitor's to Lynda.com that approach it's scope and organization.

Is there a money back guarantee if you don't learn anything?

There is a picture of the real Lynda in her book <designing web graphics.2>
I'll sell a copy for the right price.
