Get 2nd hand Technics. Built like a tank, and the best sound quality deck you can get for the price. If you want an alternative to Technics then Vestax is a much better option than Numark - they look sh!t though.
I'd also question why you want direct drive if you're not going to be djing/scratching etc. My fave deck in terms of sound quality was an old Thorens - belt drive but an amazing sound.

Numark TT's are the most cost effective and best decks you can get... fuck what it looks like ya big girl. Plus you can get a USB plugin as well

if i were going to spend ridiculous sums on a turntable, i'd get that one that reads the record with a laser. apparently it can bring new life to recordings because it can read parts of the groove that the needle never touched.

I have one of these with a goldring cartridge. Not direct drive, but if you're not DJ'ing or anything, get a belt drive.

Look for an old ('80s-'90s era) Parasound.

Angelis Labor Premiers $64,000 Gabriel Turntable
Angelis Labor is the latest company to trot out an uber-expensive turntable in the hopes that some moron will plunk down sixty-four large to impress one of his even more moronic friends.

Dont shy away from 1200s..... If you can find used 1200s .....its worth the investment. Look on craigslist or ebay.....there is always a DJ selling their tables. I got two brand new MKII Technics for $300 each...normally $500 retail.
