Barbara Kruger did this in Selfridges several years ago with her "I shop, therefore I am" slogans etc.
I was mortified.
Fairey doing it doesn't really surprise me.

The guy loves money, what's wrong with that?
Maybe he's a big fan of irony too.

so say, if van gogh were still alive (and potentially still a famous painter) and he created the new pepsi brand it'd be okay because he loves money?
do any of you have any integrity at all?
- well that is just a dumb question. of course we don't. we are here to sell shit to EVERYONE!lvl_13
- newsflash! Fairey is not an artist.flashbender

His work used to be interesting. Now he's a bigger whore than any of us. The Saks stuff is somewhat ironic/thought provoking, but that will be lost on anyone who actually shops at Saks. Maybe that's the beauty of it. But to me, I just look at that and think about the bag and bags of cash he probably got for doing it.
Shit, maybe he really needed to cash in on his Obama success though. Not a bad move. Like Phelps cashing in on endorsements after the Olympics. That shit can't last forever, so you might as well get paid while you can.

well, van gogh wasn't famous while he was alive, so if someone offered him a bunch of cash i wouldn't fault him for that.
i believe it was the immortal words of xhibit, who said "my baby daughter can't eat your respect."

there are better ways of making money acescence.
look at what SF's actions are doing to his reputation within THIS community... much less the real art world. i don't think any amount of money is worth being known as a sell out piece of shit.
- newsflash! He's not an artist.flashbender
- Kinda harsh don't you think?Mimio

- do you really feel that way? he was making a living before. this is different and if you don't see that, i don't care what you think.********
