What a half-hearted thread attempt.
- Who are you?3point14159
- I am, and mostly always have been, Nairn. I was simply wondering if you'd gone under a different name here previously.Nairn
- ..previously.Nairn
- My blunt question probably sounded like a challenge. 'Twasn't meant as such - I've been meaning to ask for a whileNairn
- ..while.Nairn
- Utopian > Utopian1 > Utopian 2 = Banned3point14159
- Aha. Well, good to know that you're still here in some form - though we've rubbed up the wrong beforehand, haven't we?Nairn
- er.. 'wrong WAY beforehand' - that 'rubbed up the wrong' just sounds.. well, wrong.Nairn
- Yes we have and before Utopian > Organic Grid, lost that User/Pass info years ago...3point14159

Oh ..you want whole heartiness;
are there any interesting organizations you associate yourself with QBN members.. Geezzzzzzzzzze.. and chic of the day is a worth while thread concerning design... its sunday give it a rest
- ignore Nairn he's a half hearted attempt at a human being.amongthemasses
- I am who I am and do not hide behind pseudonyms, unlike some people, 'amongthemasses'Nairn

I have personally given up on posting design, creative or inspirational like threads here... I agree that QBN has become like Craigslist, however there are some hot looking girls on "Chic of the Day".
Anyway to your question Plash, what do you mean by assocations?
AIGA, Art Director Club memberships?

I agree, hard to complain about chic of the day thread; in any case;
I am thinking of the networking aspect of community participation.
local and international groups (aiga, Cut + Paste, NAPP etc)and for Nairn; who said anything about hiding behind pseudonyms;
funny thing about being apart of the community is you have to be a member of the flock ...qbn being one of them.little early for this ..
a simple question that can be answered simply.- I was talking to amongthemasses.Nairn
- My point to you was that I feel care should be taken when asking for input, if you want valuable responses, is all.Nairn
- You know, a well-formed query here, some grammar there - maybe a 'please' or a 'thank you'. The little things, yeah?Nairn
- Unless, of course, you are dyslexic - in which case, I apologise. I didn't consider that when I first responded.Nairn

Nairn, going through your past PVs i don't see a please and not all are well constructed sentences..
i tell ya what; lets drop this discussion civilized call it even and let it be. unless of course, you need the last word..
- That's funny, I see 4 'thanks!' or 'x' (kisses) in page one alone of my PVs where I'm asking for something?Nairn
- And I'd utterly dispute your assertion that I don't form my queries ably enough to warrant respectable replies.Nairn
- That is my final word on the matter. Unless, of course, you need the last word..Nairn

You know, I never really saw the appeal of joining AIGA or similar organizations. Maybe because they seem more focused on print and I am more of an interactive designer.
For those of you who are members, do you think you've gained a lot from it?
- i used to be a member but came to the same conclusion.sputnik2
- Nairn0
As an answer - I'd wager that active membership and respectful self-promotion in an online community (not necessarily this one, to all the naysayers and pessimists, a group I'd often include myself in..) would be of more immediate and practical use.
Though - does AIGA (et al) offer discounts on things like business insurance, law and tax advisors (etc)? If so, that'd be of use. I used to be a member of the FSB and the IoD over here in the UK, long enough to gain access to some of their benefits. Professionally though, they were of little use beyond the first year.

Generally, associations like the: AIGA, Art Director Club, Cut + Paste, Graphic Artists Guild, etc... just milk individuals for their money. They offer no real benefit exept discounted pricing on you guessed it "one of their hundreds of awards competitions" that generate even more revenue for their organizations.
