i wouldn't exactly call it a "moment"... it was more like "fuck it. I'll be a designer."

I was doing a Computer Science degree (badly), course advisor asked what I really liked doing, asked if I'd ever heard of Industrial Design ("no", like most people), visited design school, they showed me car concept renderings (old school marker and pastel on dark canson paper)... that was it, signed up to the course that week, ended up as a designer for General Motors.
Many years later realised that what I really liked about Computer Science was the interface design, not the coding (At high school I had written a space shuttle landing simulator in Basic that was all about display of info, with horrible physics).

That's a coincidence Spork. I also did a psychology degree. A year after finishing and whilst working in a shitty job I realised that I needed to do something creative. I'd always been interested in skateboard graphics, made random bits and bobs and even did my psychology dissertation on children's development in drawing. So I started a foundation course in Art and Design... Pretty much straight away I realised I enjoyed the graphics side... etc etc. To be honest I always wanted a career in some sort of arty subject but my parents talked me out of it during my 'A' levels.

Got a copy of Photoshop and messed with that for a couple of years until I found out people got paid to make images and layouts for a living, and I was like 'sign me up'.

I was spending more time doing design work than my actual university program. I decided to quit university and go to a design school to become "certified".
Good thing for that because most of my class mates at the time are probably taxi drivers now. Studying "geography" as this was one of the only choices offered to me to go into after high school.
Good thing for that.

I was doing 7th grade science fair and realized I enjoyed putting my display board together more than anything else I had done for the project...

Always wanted to be a mason, then an engineer (i love the techincal parts of airplanes) then my drawing teacher at high schoo first started making us doing a refurbishment plan for our room, with all the architectural and interiors details, then the year after with corel ventura i laid out a small paper about architecture, then the next year to present an history of arts presentation i pulled together a bunch of webpages with notepad and the help of a book.
Plus i as a kid i did a graphical interface for the DOS pc we had, based on lines and .bat files. And add the fact I always been a wannabe illustrator. So i was pretty much doomed since the beginning.

I'd rather see a "The moment you figured out how to masturbate" thread. For me I was 10 and proceeded to do it 5 times. I was hooked.

Painted products, pixel by pixel, for a whole catalogue back in '91.
Took on from there, and sadly, never learned anything else.
