... that you wanted to be a designer.
It came time to declare my major, and I woke up the morning of and realized I wasn't going to be happy with being a Psychology major the rest of my life. Called my parents and told them I needed time off, took a semester off, backpacked in Europe, came back and finished with a design degree. At some point in my trip in Europe I realized I was blogging about it, taking photos, going to galleries, and visiting Amsterdam a lot. That's when I knew :).

i found out after getting kicked out of so many schools and being pissed over in life in general, that no other option was left for me than to surrender and lead the miserable life i do now.

"Man, how long did it take you to put that web page together, it looks really good."
"You think so? About a day..."
"Where did you study for that?"
"Study? I dunno..just read alot on the web...this CSS stuff is fun.."
"Really? I do desktop publishing and that whole html and css thing is beyond me. People make lots of money doing it.."
"Excuse me? What? People make money doing...this??"
"Oh yeah."

Boss: So you need a job, huh?
Me: Yeah.
Boss: What kind of college degree you got?
Me: Music.
Boss. Hmm. Ok, well you can start with those guys out back lifting shit and cutting your hands up with the power tools. Or, you can go in that room with the computer. No one here is sure how to use it, let alone turn it on. But I think we need to advertise our business a bit.

I was eight years old, a teacher asked what I wanted to be when I grew up. I said rich. She said her brother-in-law was a graphic designer and he made a lot of money...

I have always been interested in the arts... never realized I could have a career as a designer until i turned 21. I came from a small podunk town and went to a high school that had Art 1 and Art 2 classes. In 10th grade I was given the option to either take Art class or Band Class. I couldn't take either since they were during the same hour. Long story short I took Art class so I could draw for at least an hour a day and ta-da, here I am.

Growing up on the streets of Newport Beach, design is the only option a lot of us poor white kids had back in those days. It was a means to an end, an opportunity for us to get out of the ghetto. I saw a friends older brother roll past me in an '84 Volvo blasting My Bloody Valentine, and I was like damn...I want to be like him some day.

Actually, probably when I realized I could make decent money for expressing myself and forcing my tastes onto others, that and being discerning (aka snobby).

I fell into it. I started off cartooning/illustrating, then moved to 3d, then into interactive design. Each job led to the other.
