some assclown client tried to have a go at me about my lack of care in regards to the keywords and description when we were discussing google and seo of their site. was nice to quietly raise the point that google doesn't use either. where google go the others follow.

a brief read on googles meta tag use:

    google on meta keywords:
    http://www.google.com/support/we…

    google on meta description:
    http://www.google.com/support/we…

If you use the All-in-one SEO pack, yes remove the hard coded meta tags in your header.php template. While the importance of meta tags is debatable, I'd say you're better off to have them then not. The tags should not be duplicated and its content should be unique for each page if you choose to use them. (this is for keywords and description meta tags)
