Has anyone bought from the Apple refurb store. Good/bad experiences?
Thinking of buying a macbook from there.

For similar Money I would get a new 13" MB.
Recent Tests have shown they are alot quicker than the last MBP
In relation to Apple Store... I would but get Applecare. Also try and get it through a student as Applecare is around £60

I've heard some bad stuff about the new MBs, like the click pad not registering clicks properly. Also they don't have a firewire port which I need for my external HDs
- also the money isn't that similar. £570 vs £900 for same specBaskerviIle
- To be fair I never checked the prices... that is goodDancer

I got a refurb, first night I got it I expierienced a kernal panic, but think that was due to my iPod. Not had any problems since, and I've had it for 2 and a half years - so i'm pro-refurb!

bought a 15" laptop a few years ago and its absolutely fine. Always get apple care or some sort of insurance

Justin Long at a table with piles of cash on it.
MAC: "I'm sorting out my finances. Mock Vista, mock Vista, mock Vista... fix launch problems. Mock Vista, mock Vista, mock Vista"
PC: "It seems everything you've launched this year has had problems."
MAC: "You're right - I'd better put it all into mocking Vista"

Refurb all the way, they're factory-new condition. The only difference is a grey cardboard box it comes in.
But.. I have two of them, first one's black and I recently got white one as well. I was surprised how different the plastic is. Black is matte and feels very solid. White is glossy and it feels like it would break any time. I've put stuff on the black one for months as it lies on the desk, lid closed. Not a scratch (there are some, but come from travel). The white one has tiny marks on it after i put a phone on it once!

Refurb apple products are great. Haven't had any problems. Definintely get your hands on the macbook if you don't have enough money for the new model.

Off topic, could I run CS4 etc through parallels or should I really use boot camp for that?

btw, vmware doesn't block a single core, can share with osxrafalski - fucker! :)rafalski
- Cool, so I can point it to the winxp partion for par/vmware and then use bootcap for full speed? How fast is parrales/vw compared to bc?Jnr_Madison
- So vmware us better than parallels?Jnr_Madison

i've talked about it before but maybe 6 or 7 months ago i bought a refurb 24" imac from the apple site. when it showed up the only way i would have known it was NOT brand new was the box it came in. it was mint. knock on wood but i haven't had one single problem with it since i bought it. i maxed out the ram thanks to crucial.com and ordered cs3 for 1/2 off online. it's been a super machine and is lighthing fast.
the company i work for now buys all refurb mbp's and they all run like crap, but all of us who use them are 100% positive it's because the pc i.t. based department set it up. case in point: when i got my machine i only had 10gb left on my hard drive. each time a new person got the machine the installed the same software each time for the new user. i had three versions of windows xp, parallels and cs3 on this thing. it was an abomination. but a few months ago we had an apple tech in who completely reworked our machines. the first day he started going through them he comes over and goes "no fucking way... you guys did this to mess with me right..."
i'm babbling. sorry. short story long refurbs are better tested and come with the same warranty. do it.
