I'd like to make my case for bringing back the ignore feature of the old newstoday by appealing to your bottom line, which is usually the motivating factor in any business decision. I would imagine, that just like every other website that sells advertising space on their site in the form of banner ads, the cpc value is usually determined by the traffic your site receives. Unique page views, number of visitors, average viewing times etc.
Since this site has been too often dominated by a very small percentage of loud mouths, who contribute nothing but inflammatory posts. RARELY are they the ones answering legit design related questions etc, I find myself visiting this site less and less. And when I do, I often click around less and spend less time on each page because as soon as I start to see these jazx's, hedges, republican (the user name) etc I just leave. I am not alone, I work in a large agency, full of creatives, developers, marketeers etc who all USED to enjoy reading this site. The majority of which have now given up on qbn.com because of the very small minority of those looking to inflame rather than positively contribute to the lively collective dialogue of design help, marketing help, flash questions and on and on. We've discussed it many times at work.
Therefore, and sorry for such a long post, but I'm certain you could improve your banner ad rates were you to reinstate the ignore feature. Sooooo many more legitimately helpful people would come back (think Typographica and others), and sooo many more would feel comfortable posting legit questions and generating lively conversation and getting the help they were looking for. All these extra eyeballs only benefit your bottom line.
Please please bring back the ignore feature.
Soapbox diatribe complete.- it's too long, I know. Don't complain, just take a minute and read it.threadpost

It was nice while jazx was away. But even while he was inactive for a time, there has always been someone who feels its their responsibility to dominate the dialogue, speaking very loudly and saying very little.
Please please give us an ignore feature...puuuhhhleeeezzzz? Shit I might even be willing to pay a subscription fee to this site if it had a more of these useful features.

Why is JazX such a racist and hateful person anyway? I guess this is typical of a vast majority of Republicans. I was once Republican but now I am a reformed moderate Indy. The Republicans ideology was basically: ignorant, all about wealth & greed, control, power, war, the bible, guns, abortion and hatred to all those who did not agree with them. Some really narrow minded and inbred thinking as a whole gave me a wake up call!

How to implement the ignore feature without drastically changing the functionality of the PVN:
If you put someone on ignore, you still see that they posted by their name in blue and a timestamp, however, the actual text is not displayed. Notes are still enabled so you can still comment as to what may have been typed, and after a few days of that, the person who is on ignore will probably grow tired of their antics and leave.
Notes work the same way, just don't bring back the post text.
That way it would not affect the live forum listing when people post as well, and the numbers for posting would jive across the board.
Also, this just came to me ... you can even have a stat on your profile as to how many people have you on ignore ... and with that, you could also make way for a note count. :D
I'd be happy to work on this.
