Should I get involved in this? An idea guy came to me asking if I'd like to get involved in building a site for college students where they could do book trades. Something simple and free. But the thing is I'd have part of the company so I assume I'd have to promote it etc and I know this would take alot of my time and I'm not so passionate about it. I would not be paid either well he did not offer to. Thanks.

i think you answered your own question.
but damn, that would have been handy when i was in school. fucking book prices were ridiculous.

Sounds pretty interesting as a side project. I'm sure it could spin off into other areas such as clothing. I heard of a cool 'clothing swap' event somewhere here in Australia, you take your clothes put them on a rack and go free shopping.
Maybe the same can be applied online....or is this already being done?.....if not, I bags the clothing idea! lol

Wait a sec... an "idea guy?"

BTW do you have a verbal NDA with this guy?

Was this the Muslim guy?

I had this idea back in college too. I don't think it will work well because book publishers update their books so damn often. Even math books which have no need to be updated. Also a lot of poor students who might use your site now get their books from bittorent.

No...What would you get out of trading books?

I've heard of these running in Australia, and they're not designed for profit as such, they're designed for the re-circulation of texts between registered users. the organisers of the site really don't have much a model to work with in terms of profits, but don't let that slow you down... good luck if you try it :)

Cool. Now I know what I'll say when people ask:
"Where the hell did you get that idea from!?!"

Here's an idea we had back in college - a bar mall. A shopping mall filled with nothing but bars, eaxh offering a unique drinking and social environment, concierge parking and various hotels.
Think about it. A bar mall.
It's time willcome,you'll see...
