I got my MacBook Pro 15 inch today.
I've been a Windows user forever.I have to say the amount of thought and detail put into this machine is incredible. I can say the same for OSX. I can't believe I used Windows for so long.
Anyone on the fence about whether or not to switch to Mac, I highly suggest it.

I'm getting one delivered in 10 days. I don't really know how to use a mac. what's a good site that goes through the hot keys and how to change preferences? Simple things like I read you can eject a cd by dragging its icon into the trash bin.

- its not funny. i couldnt figure out how to open the drive at first either. its not a user friendly method imo.October
- there is an eject button on the keyboard

Meeklo - i could imagine that it might be scary dragging a disc to the trashcan tho.bulletfactory
- Pay $99 for One to One lessons at your local apple store.KevinTx
- If you have to pay $99 to learn how to use, it isn't designed very well.404NotFound

Welcome aboard! The discussion forums on the Apple site are really good. They have forums for ex Windows users, so you can ask even the most basic questions without feeling like an idiot.

You'll get used to it. Just read tutorials, support forums, previous QBN threads, etc. Google is your friend.

I don't remember what it's like to use a Windows machine. Seriously, I don't. Last time I bought one was in 1996.

I've been using Apple comps since the Commodore 64 stopped being top pimp on the block. Then again, I've been using Windows just as long. The biggest difference is... using command instead of control. There are also a few features from both platforms that don't exist on the other. Expose is the first that comes to mind as far as productivity, for me at least. I couldn't live without it at this point.
At the end of the day, you must remember, the brand matters not. Computers are merely tools. How well you work with said tool is what matters most. It will take some getting used to, and it will either frustrate the fuck out of you or make you fall in love and want to hump your firewire 800 port... or not (hopefully not).
Ok... I'm drunk... and sleepy.
I'm done. Thank you. G'nite.

if you're familiar with unix just put the terminal hotkey to a visible place, and you'll find most basic thing what you used with bash.
if the only os you used was the windows, the hardest thing to learn will be the whole apple philosophy...

One thing immediately noticeable about mac vs pc is with the speed that macs launch. I have a new mbp and a new hp/vista that's fairly fast for a 700 dollar machine. The mbp starts up within less than a minute while the vista box takes 2-3 minutes. Anybody know why this is? loading drivers or something?
- type msconfig into the run command and turn off apps you don't need from starting up on launch. Also turn off the windows loading screen,Jnr_Madison
- turn off the what?Llyod
- osx keeps pantalooning in the background after pretending to be finished by showing you the finder.invisiblechamber
- under the BOOT.ini tab on msconfig click the NOGUIBOOT to stop the windows loading screen on startup.Jnr_Madison

i dont ever shut down my machines. I notice alot of windows switchers sit there and shut down the whole computer just to transport it home or go somewhere. just shut the lid and it goes to sleep. it takes about 5 seconds for it to start back up.

oh, and the biggest piece of advice, get apple care. you have up to your first year to do so. In the past, i have sent in a computer for a broken key and it returned back to me with a new case, mouse trackpad, logic board and a bunch of stuff i didnt ask for.
