That wasn't much of a rant...

Needs more venom and frustration.

i wonder if you show keen interest in her experience at this agency and make her feel really good about herself .. if she would return the favor and show more respect for your work.
probably not, but that's always where my mind goes. show ultimate respect and after there's a show of trust deliver a couple of soft blows to let her know you understand her limit of knowledge in this field and that you'll take it from here.

I think I worked for the same client. She thinks she knows typography and even had the nerve to use tip-ex (white-out for you yanks) to suggest some ammendments to a logotype – stuff like lopping off the tops of ascenders at an angle. Looked horrible.
I don't tell her how to do her job, but her job seems to only involve mismanaging projects and she pretty competent at that.

On a side note, I had my morning coffee without sugar in it today, and surprisingly enjoyed it.

Clients love to art-direct. Just treat them with respect and help them learn what their roll is as the client and yours as the designer. It's different with every client and between agencies and freelancers, etc, but it all comes down to: what do they perceive their roll to be? What do they perceive your roll to be?
I think that a lot of smaller clients think that designers are draughtsmen — simply there to push boxes of text around for them because they don't have the hardware/software.
It's difficult to break them of it, but ultimately the results are WAY better when everyone understands their roll. Sure, they've got creative input, it's their project (and often, money) after all, but together you're there to create a great solution.
