    Clients love to art-direct. Just treat them with respect and help them learn what their roll is as the client and yours as the designer. It's different with every client and between agencies and freelancers, etc, but it all comes down to: what do they perceive their roll to be? What do they perceive your roll to be?
    I think that a lot of smaller clients think that designers are draughtsmen — simply there to push boxes of text around for them because they don't have the hardware/software.
    It's difficult to break them of it, but ultimately the results are WAY better when everyone understands their roll. Sure, they've got creative input, it's their project (and often, money) after all, but together you're there to create a great solution.
