A good graphic design job (not web) can get you lots of bread.

I'm going to come right out and say it. I don't like print. Having to worry about pantone colors, paper weights, and random mistakes is enough to give me a migraine. Give me a Flash movie and some CSS anyday.
- we need guys like you!!!!! thanx otherwise....we would fuck up :)moamoa
- amen. leave that to the code monkeysmonospaced
- not a code monkey...just prefer web in general:)....but to each their ownukit
- i agree with ukit... not being able to code stops you doing a lot of stuffPromotionalUseOnly

People kinda assume if your a designer you also good at web. Been learning web for about 2 years now, still can't bare to tackle ActionScript or PHP. Everytime I try something technical like that something inside just stops me. If you want your web work with less hassle i'd recommend dedicating yourself to CSS and adopting a platform like textpattern. In the long run would result is less tears (i hope :'-)
Don't know if this is the same for others but the demand seems to be pretty steady for web and more sporadic for print/ hence the reason I started doing web.
- yes, but then textpattern ends up missing things clients want and you keep fighting.. it never ends..janne76

I hate web design and, not surprisingly, do very little of it

back in the early 90's i started off at ad agencies, doing print (ad campaigns etc), helping story board commercials, stuff like that....around 97 i got my first gig doing websites (pretty far back now that i think about it) after that i got and art director position and that was almost entirely web design...now, it seems about 70-30 web to print...
i find web has its own hassles...as in, some projects never seem to end...always something more to tweak, something more to add...print is usually a much quicker turnaround, ....however.....that being said, print has a few million headaches all it's own...ukit hit the nail on the head with that one....everything about print is unforgivable...one teensy weensy little fuckup, and wham...and THAT can weigh heavily on your mind, at...oh...3am after you've sent an ad out that is part of a national campaign with a print buy of a hundred grand or more...
i've had more than my share of sleepless nights going over every last minute detail.......but man....there is just something about seeing your work in print....opening up a magazine and seeing your latest ad...

We have designers who design, but don't code, that's where I come in. Can't be arsed designing to be honest, much prefer making a psd come to life.

I'll take web over print any day.
I don't think print will ever go away entirely, but I do think with innovations like e-paper that it will see a steady decline in the future. Also people wanting to be "green" will be another contributing factor. I work for a publishing company and we are already starting to switch some of our materials to web only.

I thought you were quitting design and moving to Luxemburg

i'm starting a webdesign project at work on wednesday for a rather large client. It's my first real 'web design' project and i'm kinda nervous. My project manager already asked me if I like to sleep and if I like coffee. I already know what's going to happen.. but.. there's a few key words involved with this project: 'discretionary bonus'.
