it is a mentality difference. i can't put my finger on it. something about germany i value more than holland..
i think here people can be so incredibly narrow-minded or shortsighted in terms of privacy, people here are very focussed at one another.. i feel..
most companies in my regions are incredibly (!!!) UNinspiring. Really. Even the biggest ad/design agency here cranks out rubbish. The owners are good acquintances of mine so I can't tell them, but it is subpar. And somehow most people here don't know better, so that is why they still sell so well i guess. And then there's the sick amount of "web-companies", that are technically quite ok on web stuff, but "also do logo's for 240 euro".. ffs. There's so little here that inspires me.
I know it is better in Rotterdam, Amsterdam etc. but I am not going to live in the ghetto again, because of insane rental prices...
Hence my lookout to Germany.
I like the Gründlichkeit.. the quite (well somewhat more) silent, less screamy attitude of Germans, the cleannes of their design in a lot of things/industries (for instance TV.. i know, not superb, but a lot of times better than the crap that spews from our screens lately here..)..
And everytime I drive through Germany I feel good, sort of familiar.. I don't know. Can't put my finger on it so well, i just try to explain.
I think I am simply not as Dutch as a lot of Dutch people expect me to be.
oh yes, most of the people i know here shiver when you mention "esthetics", "culture" or "art", like they are curse words.. grr...

Janne, I hear it's not so bad in Ludwigsburg, Germany - why don't you ask moamoa about it?
- moamoa0
in this case germany maybe really is: the lesser of the two evils.
but you´ll find the same problems here, like everywhere.I guess nowadays nowhere you´ll find a perfect place, but maybe its just about finding the place with least "contras"
- gung_hoek0
I think it´s a city thing.
when I moved from berlin to a rhein/main suburb I felt exactly the same. the mojo out there was bad. all tidy and stuff, but dead minds everywhere. then I moved from the suburb into the city, vibe totally ok again (sex & crime, yeah!!!). 15km can make the difference.
don´t know about companies/clients, there´s very conservative ones, then cool ones. always depends on the people you´re dealing with. the general mentalities are not that different, I´m afraid. but again, the avantgarde always seems to be in the cities.
- *dutch & german mentalitiesgung_hoek
- indeed, sex&crime :)moamoa
- yeah, crime.. *ugh* i am coming from there, can't quite laugh about it. one of my major contra's..janne76
- I hate it too. crack junkies/ thugs, etc. but then, you´ll have the culture, art scene, etc. that makes the city the winner (if you don´t have children).gung_hoek
- you don´t have children)gung_hoek
- ludwigsburg is peacfulmoamoa
- yeah, the "city" i lived only had thugs, drunk people, criminals, wifebeaters and close to NO art..janne76
- *sigh*
i think i got a trauma from it, that is why i am looking for the peace and quietness i think..janne76 - or i just became old haha.. i got so many grey/white hairs for a 32 year old haha..janne76

i hear "conservative clients" a lot on this board. What exactly is your (to everyone, noone in particular) definition of a "conservative" client?
- the guy who thinks a banner is going to expand his business?Witt
- well it does, doesn't it?janne76
- ;)janne76

conservative: my definition
- make the logo bigger
- can´t wee use just a white paper as always
- nooo thats to much, what wuld the people think
- no lets stay with the din format
- grey on white? can 60 yrs old people still read it?
- the newsletter button is to small
- navigation on the right? lets stay as always
- black stamping on black paper? in the dark nobody can see my logo
- no we need a photo of a male (40-45) in his garden for the poster... a photography is telling more then 1000 word.something like this, maybe conervative is the wrong word, maybe dejected is a better word... "as always"

this thread is really a gem in terms of good info exchange..
if people want to know about NL, ask me. I know not much (it differs a lot per region, even though the country is so f* small..), but i know a lot of people in many places here...
- moamoa0
I had my experience with NL... some good one (the agencies I vistied) but mostly bad experience especially the bureaucracy .. (as you know I didn´t got a visa) :)
- & real estate...moamoa
- yes, i wonder why people say "more bureaucracy" in germany, even on other sites, while ... >janne76
- it is really omnipresent in NL as well. So many rules..janne76
- everybody told me there is almost no bureaucracy in NL, its so easy blabalb, its was the complete opposite of thatmoamoa
- maybe just in my moving case... who knows.... I still can´t understand why they didn´t allow me to work theremoamoa
- I take it you don´t have the german passport?gung_hoek
- nope. I was born in germany, but I am croatian, you know the mafia in frankfurt :)moamoa
- ah, cause i wondered. If you have an EU passport, you are allowed to work/live anywhere in the EU...janne76
- sorry about your experience in holland. fact is, lots of bureaucracy here...janne76
