Its just a tool. Design principles are design principles whether you are using MS Paint or Adobe Illustrator. Work with what you've got. Just saying that Powerpoint is crap speaks nothing of design. Its a standard tool and we all have to deal with it. What makes PPT crap is how people present and the fact that it puts "design tools" in the reach of amateurs. All of this conjecture is silly.
