Flash Help

I am trying to open a flash file that I don't have the fonts installed. So it gives me the "One or more fonts used by this movie are not available..." message

Is there a way to open the file without altering the fonts? Man this is annoying. The problem is two-fold...I have the correct fonts, they are just named differently ( can't rename them as they are on a suitcase server) and the other problem is that I have the font installed but the font style (bold, italic) does not show up when I tell Flash to substitute it. So it will change all the helveticas accordingly, but I have to go and re-bold everything, etc.

Anyone know an easy way around this problem? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Can't you just replace the font when the file opens via suitcase / fontexplorer / etc?
If not you'll have to track down the instances of each font in the movie and then re-point it to the new, correct font.
If you don't once you export/publish the movie you may get some pretty mad psychedelic lines and things all over your stage.

    Thanks for the response pylon....

I can tell Flash to substitute the correct fonts, but I cannot select the font style. So for example, I can choose "Helvetica Neue" but I not "Helvetica Neue Bold" dunno why Flash sees the fonts different than Photoshop. So when I do this, I have the correct font, but then I have to go back and re-bold everything....plus positioning gets jacked up.

Guess I was hoping there was something similar to Photoshop where Flash wouldn't screw up the fonts until you actually tried to change the type.

    • Flash's font-handling (amongst other things) totally piss me off...pylon
    • no doubt! As cool as Flash is, there are things that are so backwards about it.designbot

yeah, the spacing will get screwed up. also make sure you look through all your fonts when you "choose substitue" because a lot of times it will be somewhere else in the list (ie. if you want Helvetica Neue Bold, it might name it Helvetica Bold Neue or 75 Helvetica Neue or Helvetica 75 Neue etc. etc.)

and, even if you choose a sub, go into your flash doc and rechoose the font, because often times it will show your font like "(Helvetica Neue)" in parentheses, which also tends to fuck things up.

    FUN TIMES!

    • Thanks, yeah I guess it's a manual process regardless. FU Flash !designbot
