Didn't read all the posts...and I'm not about to. All I have to say about Obama's speech was all rhetoric. He didn't address anything in detail....only made a bunch of promises with no substance.
Obama's Spirtual mentor was Jeremiah Wright for 20+ years. I know that's old news....but Obiviously Obama didn't have a problem with his pastor until he was in the limelight and he knew it was hurting his campaign. What can be said for a man who is mentored for over 20 years by a rev who is a racist and anti-semite? Doesn't anyone else find that disturbing?
And Obama voted against banning the sick practice of partial birth abortion too....

I put it in a note, but now I feel like making it its own thing.
JackHammers post is classic GW Bush "You're either with us or against us" stance. Something that all the dems were all up in arms about when he said it.Aren't you supposed to be taking the high ground and be a bit more open minded that that?
- yep.mia_free
- It's not a "you're with us or against us" it's the truth...read my post below....Lt_Jack_Hammer
- yourmia_free
- "Truth" is not absolute - it is subjective. My truth is probably different than your truth.flashbender
- by your mentality the US is totally justified in using torture as well - because that is what the other side does?flashbender
- mia, I did use "you're" and not "your"...pay attention stupid.Lt_Jack_Hammer

It's always funny watching the right wing pundits and shills. Before the speech they were all like "Well, Obama has to make a case for himself. He has to lay out specifics. He has to hit back hard against McCain."
A minute after the speech the same hacks were saying "He focused to much on his own story. He was too specific, he now has too many flanks to defend. He went negative against McCain, which doesn't fit his image. Not a very good speech...."
That's when I threw my tea mug at David Brooks head...

I loved this section. this shows he understands that these issues are not black and white and should be addressed in a realistic manner.
"We may not agree on abortion, but surely we can agree on reducing the number of unwanted pregnancies in this country. The reality of gun ownership may be different for hunters in rural Ohio than for those plagued by gang-violence in Cleveland, but don't tell me we can't uphold the Second Amendment while keeping AK-47s out of the hands of criminals. I know there are differences on same-sex marriage, but surely we can agree that our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters deserve to visit the person they love in the hospital and to live lives free of discrimination. Passions fly on immigration, but I don't know anyone who benefits when a mother is separated from her infant child or an employer undercuts American wages by hiring illegal workers. This too is part of America's promise - the promise of a democracy where we can find the strength and grace to bridge divides and unite in common effort."

Why are designers/artists so fucking liberal? I don't understand it. Someone indulge me.
- Simple, they look to create and not conserve.TheBlueOne
- You've got your responses telegraphed don't you BlueOne?d_rek

- You're right, d_rek, it is a (true) cliche. A self-fulfilling stereotype. Sometimes I come across as far-right 'cause...dog_opus
- ...I'm very much in the middle politically.dog_opus
- I prefer "leftist" to liberal, though. The modern left is more totalitarian than liberal (individual rights, capitalism, etc.)dog_opus

"The greatest I've ever seen."
Dr, are you referring to speeches Obama has ever given, or for anyone? I hope the former, as this is about as canned DNC as could ever be...
- Let's make sure you make that same comment about the RNC next week.Lt_Jack_Hammer
- want me to post-date it now? i gladly will.
no clue who you are, Jack, but you clearly have no clue about my views.madirish - my views. there could not be anyone here more to the left than i.madirish

If you knew McCain and how he's voted....his actual public record (which is a fact...zero Dem or Repub spin..just facts)....then you could clearly see he's not about the things that are going to benefit middle class families, their kids (education), the environment, etc. So, yes, if you can look at his voting record and still support him then you 100% do not care about you're families future or this countries future....you're either uninformed or only out for money and yourself. You cannot look at this stuff and intelligently think that he's going to be the change this country needs...it's impossible...unless you're an uninformed moron or out for yourself.
- It must be nice to see the world where there is no grey area - just black and white.flashbender
- I'm simplifying my message for you Republicans since that is a classic tactic of yours.Lt_Jack_Hammer

forget being obligated to stay within the confines of the 2-party system. Check out some of the 3rd parties...don't be fooled into voting for the "lesser of two evils" approach that alot of people seem to have. How about voting for someone who you honestly think would make a good president.

"You cannot look at this stuff and intelligently think that he's going to be the change this country needs...it's impossible..."
I like you Jack. Honestly, I really do. That comment though, can be applied across the board to ANY presidential candidate for the last 40 years.
- Lt_Jack_Hammer0
flashbender... so when the Republican's use that tactic as a means to separate and divide people it's totally fine....but, when Democrats use that very same tactic it's all of a sudden bad and people get all worked up about how wrong it is. Problem is, Dem's have been too passive for too long. I'm pissed that this country (and the world) is as effed as it is...enough is enough...so, yeah, it's time for a little taste of their own medicine...time to take a stand and stop being spineless babies.

I liked the stage design with the circular steps to the lectern and that it was held in a stadium, an open oval. Obama's speech was good for recognizing that we can get ahead if we end the old narratives including the one started by MLK ( who was not mentioned by name) never mind the others shilled by neocons that his presence on that stage confirms.

Here is what they aren't telling you about Obama:
- sputnik20
wow jack_hammer, you have to make things "clear and simple for the morons of this country"? there have been two parties for over 200 years for a reason...they are ideologically different. just because someone doesn't agree with your point of view doesn't make them a retard. you're entitled to your perspective and i don't see how calling you names would make for intelligent discourse. it would be nice if you could refrain from calling others names too.
- Elect Harold Stassen!
capsize - wow, sputnik, you're a baby...seriously, calling you a retard hurt you? grow up.Lt_Jack_Hammer
- ok, so there is no intelligent discourse with you. thanks for clarifying.sputnik2
- Elect Harold Stassen!

Clearly, for those too stupid to understand my message, I'm being over dramatic and simplifying (making a very complex thing very black and white) because it's a common tactic used by Republicans. It's funny how upset they (being Republicans) get when one of their own tactics is being used against them. The world is a very complex place...lot's of in's and out's and TONS of gray area...it sucks to have something so complex and personal be chopped down to a simple yes and no or black and white...doesn't it?
