It's alive and well. Boggles my mind, really does. I have seen some pretty disgusting displays. Made me ashamed to be human.

as always i'll bring it down to the simple terms:
Indian ladies not giving me a good vibe. Indian ladies not want to sleep with me. Indian ladies culturally too fucked in their heads to sleep with a white man (me). Indian ladies bad. My penis good.

Being part Asian, I know about this issue. My dad is very dark and my mum is very white so I am mix of both (Pantone 729 C ;) so when I go and visit my family they all look at me and say that I am very fair and they like it but then again I look at them and I like their dark skin so I always find that funny.
If you look at Bollywood you will see that most of the actor there are fair skinned, unfortunately you don't see that many dark skinned women in Bollywood.
I think its shit when some women in India and other countries in Asia have issues with getting married due to having dark skin. We are what we are and that is what counts.
- Bollywood starts are lighter, but a lot are from Northern India, where skin is lighter anyway.Jaline
- It's Southern India where there is darker skin. You're right that there are more lighter-skinned people in those films, but there are other film industriesJaline
- are other film industries for Southern India and Sri Lanka.Jaline
- The fact you know your Pantone color is just so fucking cool.TheBlueOne
- True but not as mainstream as Bollywood, my dad has some old classics at home ;)PSYKHO
- But your right!PSYKHO
- Its good to know your Pantone skin color ;)PSYKHO
- Yup, Bollywood is hugely popular compared to other film industries. It's either first or second to Hollywood.Jaline

Why is it racist?

i find this to be very sad...she's such a pretty girl and gets dissed just for being a notch over on some lame colour/cultural spectrum? and to get accepted she needs to bleach her skin?
i once read an article regarding how black women in american advertisments almost always seem to be a shade lighter than the men in the same ad or commercial, and how it propagated racism within their community. i should dig it up...it was interesting yet sad and frustrating.

LOL its not racist its what we call a color problem. Lots of people esp from the lower classes do what we just called "bleaching" they have very light faces and thats it.
India like Jamaica is a post colonial society that had its values trust down its throats for a very long time by a dominant white ruling class and as such in these society lighter skin is seen as desirable by some who have not been able to cast off the mental shackles.
Desiring lighter skin is an aesthetic choice, like getting fuller lips, larger boobs etc.
Racism is a whole new hydra.

i think it's pretty retarded, to be honest....
my wife is indian, and i recall her telling me that one of her cousins back in India was having a hard time getting married....as far as my wife was concerned, this particular girl was probably the prettiest of all her cousins by far, but because she had darker skin, it was difficult to get her 'arranged' so to speak....some family's wanted a huge amount of money just because of it....
If she were here, and free and clear from some of those influences, and was (like my wife) able to just date or meet any guy she wanted, she could probably have her pick of a ton of guys...but back home, thats just the way it is at the moment....
i think the term i hear a lot for the lighter skin tone is 'wheatish'....
lol
sweet jebus...I'll absolutely never ever understand this obsession with the whole dark vs. light thing..
pretty is pretty....period....whether you're as dark as night or 'wheatish'....- I know exactly what you're talking about. I have cousins who have went through this.Jaline
- Thanks for explaning racism by using another hate term.Redmond
- so indians are racist too. good to know.flashbender
- I think most cultures are racist within themselves.Jaline
- "within themselves." is unnecessary. you could have left it at "Most cultures are racist."flashbender
- Both statements are true.Jaline
- Some people may not realize that this type of racism occurs within cultures.Jaline
- *culture = raceJaline

It's fun to trade one superficial standard for another.

It's actually got nothing to do with race. It is a question of class. In India the paler you are generally the higher class you are. I beleve it comes from their caste system where the higher ups are generally paler because over generations they weren't the ones working the fields.
It was the same as western culture until a few years ago when it became desirable to be thin and tanned. In the past that was considered "swarthy".
- Sorry that last paragraph didn't make much sense
scrap_paper - sure it did....love the word 'swarthy' as well... :)exador1

One night a few years back I was out to dinner with some of my wife's coworkers and good friends (and now mine as well) who were Indian (sikh actually) and after a few drinks I said without thinking, "You know Indian people are kinda like Italians or some Eastern Europeans - either they are eye-wreckingly beautiful or they're just kinda harsh on the eyes..." and then my wife kicked me hard in the shin under the table.
I felt stupid about it for a while afterwards, but you know what, I still stand by that opinion.
- I think Indian women are teh hautissst. sadly none would have anything to do with my cracker assthreadpost
