can anyone please explain whats the difference between fullframe camera and not? show me maybe pictures examples?

Full frame is the size of the sensor, full-frame is the same size as 35mm film. most other sensors on DSLRs are about 1/2 to 2/3 the size of full frame.

so then theres no reason to change 400d to 40d ?
- no, only the next one up, the 5d, is full frame.Jnr_Madison
- Although I much prefer my 40d to the lower models.Jnr_Madison
- yeh, but they are almsot same price range.. and quality. no? 450d is similiar to 40dsenseg
- the 40d is a far better camera build wise. the 450d is a toyautoflavour
- yeah, exactly, the one's below the 40d feel like plastic (maybe they are).Jnr_Madison

There are other factors than just the size of the frame. For example; the quality of the sensor, the speed of the processor used, the quality of the materials used etc.

so then i should wait the one that will go after 5d?

sensor and iso quality are pretty important, as in the higher the iso is, the shittier it looks usually (above 800 in canons so far)... but this is supposed to be fixed.... in all, if you want a full frame camera and canon 5d is something you might be thinking about, the new one should be out in the next couple of months. i am waiting for it.... in my experience, i would recommend buying the new body and an insanely basic lens, then rent anything that requires extra length or width. there are lenses that are near the quality of canon but require a separate part to make the "other" (like a sigma or something) lens fit the canon body. people buy canon lenses for the quality of glass... but this is fast becoming torn apart by companies like nikon, who have started to produce better glass over the past couple of years.

d700 is fantastic at high iso, up to 6400

I was a Pentax guy and came across a good 5D offer half a year ago, someone was upgrading to a more advanced model.
I bought it just to play with it and possibly sell later. I just wanted to find out what this full frame thing was about. A friend of mine had said it was "the kind of optical leap you get when going from 35mm film to middle format", whatever it meant.
I still don't really know what the full frame thing is, but it is a keeper, like no other camera I had before.5D images have this hard to describe full-on in-your-face feel to them. ISO 800 is perfectly usable and I use ISO 1250 often. The graininess of Canon noise is very pleasant, film-like so it doesn't bother me. I never liked Nikon noise and Pentax noise is a tragedy, looks like sawdust.
Used 5D's are quite cheap now and will be cheaper when new models arrive.
I'm still planning to get a spare crop body, probably 400D or 450D, for portability and the 60% extra range in telephoto.

Full frame is best....be aware that new 5D might have just a bigger screen and more pixels...also, if you print A0 size no need to get more pixels.....unless u do massive posters....Canon will put a high price on it as well...the alternative as said above is the Nikon D700

Nikon D3x coming out this Sept. or something like that

the new 5d should be out with photokina 2008. i was just at a photo store and the guy said canon is burning the inventories of the standard 5d.
also price wise, canon generally is far superior to nikon competitors while the chips are better as well. nikon has a slight edge to canon with the nikor vs canon l series glass, but when you're talking high end dslrs there's really no comparing the two unless price is not a factor.

Until recently Canon has always been regarded as superior to Nikon but their lead has really diminished with the D40/x/60 (Reigniting the consumer dSLR craze), The D300 attracting many prosumers and pros who like it as a backup body (myself included), the D700, breaking the 5D monopoly as an affordable FF, and the D3, whose high ISO performance is really something to admire. Right now both are pretty equal in my eyes, and yes I have used most of each companies bodies and glass. I just chose the D300 over the 40D because of it's performance, build and ergonomics, but I'm sure the D700 vs. 5D Mk II fanboy fight will be very interesting to watch. FF is favourable in one sense because of less pixel density (think of putting packing peanuts into one box and then stuffing said peanuts into a box 1.6x smaller).
- I thought people were still onto Canon DSLRs because of those L lenses.pom
