hey
I need some 'philosophical' reason why companies shouldn't use those $99 dollar companies, ie. http://www.logoworks.com/ etc etc..
Why not use them, for companies it's, much cheaper, and some ( i said SOME) are nice logos,so why we (more like YOU, not me) 'real designers' are against those companies? because they destroy the designbusiness?
kind regards

logo has fuck-all to do with who they are as a business. It's not unique, no deep thinking behind it.

i dont think it destroys anything. if you are good than nothing to worry. if you are a client who are on limited budget it could work.
never really bothered me since, you get what you paid for
- Exactly, and a client who would want to use a service like that is not one you want anyway.ETM

you get what you pay for. those are shallow literal interpretations of the business name with cheap, shitty illustrations and mediocre typography. It's like wanting the details and elegance of an Armani suit, but demanding it from a cheap looking $99 moore's special.
- But yes, for a mom/pop low budget startup pet store ofrsomething.. Fuck it. Who cares?brains

your logo will look exactly like someone elses. its all stock/clip art.

"See up to 10 logo concepts for just $99."
Then it's $200 for the logo (including 2 revisions).$299 doesn't seem all that great, I know plenty of designers who will do that...

"Our 2 new design packages include direct consultation with a professional designer'.
Fuck me! A professional designer, he MUST be good - look he's in his late 20's and has square glasses. Probably got a messenger bag and a latte just out of shot. Probably rode there on his expensive push bike through the artsy part of a nameless downtown listening to an obscure but very good electro-rock-hipster band you'll never know. You cheap cunts.

pay a professional to do the work the right way the first time. this doesn't help the design industry at all.

I have not had the time to read this yet but this article pertains to exactly what you are talking about...

also, $99 logo only gets you one design it does not include the collateral and or color combinations such as 1 color, black and white, styles, etc. (at least from my experience)

I am not sure why I'm amazed when these questions come up but then again I just got out of a client presentation where the client wondered why I hadn't incorporated a literal globe illustration to show that they are global.

$99 are an ok idea for zero budget. The only down fall is more than one company could purchase that same logo to represent their brand. And when it comes down to it, that just sucks.
