If I called Roman's Car Service, i'd shoot that driver after he drives me. He is so fucking rude!

I may agree with you Iggy.
but we have to first acknowledge that the kid had serious traumatic problems before he even knew about the game, so weather it was the game, a marilyn manson cd that he listened to, or a pasta commercial showing a lot of red sauce, the kid was already fdup to begin with..

Should he have bought pirated games?
Hey... Can't blame the kid for having good ethics!

well you can take it as far as you want and say that society has a lot to answer for but I'm afraid that the only person ultimately responsible is the boy himself, come on.

SoulFly has a good point.
Lets all blame Lee Scott, for not opening a store in thailand, so this kid could afford a video game, and his parents a better job.

I dont get it.
"He confessed that he committed the crime because he had copied it from the game he played,"
"He wanted money to play the game. His parents, who work as civil servants, did not have enough money to give it to him"
WTF? He own the fuckin game or not ?!?
- autoflavour0

He couldn't afford to play it... so I went and killed someone... not really the games fault that.

This debate won't ever be a simple one.
Those of us that started on Atari 2600 systems will, most likely, look at games like Grand Theft as at least slightly disturbing.
Personally, I think the blame is society wide, including Hollywood horror/torture flicks. I am surprised it isn't a lot worse. My issue is that you can show a guys head getting cut off in gruesome detail, but not a little nudity??
In the end, though, humans have been barbaric and psychotic from the beginning of time.

This is reminiscent of that young kid who butchered his friend, then when the police searched his room they found a copy of Manhunt. Naturally they blamed the game for influencing him. Manhunt gets banned and notorious at the same time, everyone wants a copy etc etc blah blah blah.

This is a lame excuse. Video games, movies, wreslting... excuses for stupidity. "I was doing a mortal combat move, I didn't know the 2 year old would get hurt". yeah....

I played this game from the very first edition on my Amiga 1200, people were outraged back then when the character models were made of 12 pixels!
The guy who killed the taxi driver is obviously insane, and to possibly try and divert attention from his actions he's blamed GTA? Maybe.
He said he wanted to see if stealing a car was as easy as in the game. As easy as pushing the Y button. Yep. Stupid mother fucker, let him fry.

He couldn't afford to "play" the game.
In some poor countries where very few kids have the console, there are arcade houses. It is just like a traditional arcade, but not with actual machines, just a bunch of xbox, or playstation hook up in a room, and the owner charges by the hour. It was probably around $1 an hour of play, so obviously his $15 allowance was really short of a lot of game playing for the month.
