lame lame lame.
it really bothers me when christians assume the world revovles around them. what makes them think the the god or God in reference is *their* god? doesn't it matter?
- in god i trust.

You left out the rest of the definition....
"...esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs."
But whatever, tomato, tomato. I do think there's a difference between personal morality and believing in a supernatural being that controls the universe. In your case the morality derives that belief, in my case from other things.
- Agreed. You can believe in a connection running through the universe without being part of any organized religionscrap_paper
- designbot0
^ lol ukit, you almost gave the exact definition from the dictionary
"a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe"

- best freakin' reason I can think of. after bacon of course.TheBlueOne
- I mean, I believe in God for the personal beliefs I grew up with, but animals are my main reason. Science doesn't create that bond.mg33

- And science still can't create permanent kittens!!!Redmond

Not really, designbot. Everyone has a set of beliefs and morals. Not the same as religion.
- designbot0
^Yes, even agnostics have a religion. Everyone does.
- sorry, *Agnostics.designbot
- I also have a hobby of not collecting stamps.mrdobolina
- how's that working out?designbot
- I think you mean "beliefs" not "religion."Mimio
- yeah, well you get the point. Depends on how you define religion, I've always hated that word. (but just used it :)designbot

Has everyone forgotten the point of this post? Hedge, you just can't demand that we all share your perspective, I would go so far as to say it is wholly UN-AMERICAN to do so. I am agnostic, and OK with anyone thinking / believing what they want, but, what if capitalization in reference to your god, offends my God, then what? Would your god allow you to refer to mine with a capitol G? I think not.
It's so amazingly arrogant of you to demand respect for your beliefs, I respect your RIGHT to those beliefs, but I don't have to respect the details or the teachings. What makes your interpretation of things any more important than the next guy?

yeah, gramme is one of the good ones...

yeh, gramme's probably the most tolerable christian I've ever blustered back and forth with, we'll never agree, but I'd relish just sitting down and yabbering back and forth with him, probably getting very heated doing so, but at the end of it shaking hands and going for a calzone or something. I can't imagine him ever charging about shooting people in the name of ...er...his thing, you know.
- you should capitalize "His Thing"locustsloth
- you should capitalize "Calzone"TheBlueOne
- HAHAHAHAHAgramme
- and thank you, kind sir. :)gramme

It's a tricky situation, gramme. i mean, i have never known you to prosthelatize unprovoked, merely it seems you pipe up when you feel you need to defend your faith. i actually respect that amount of dedication to your ideals.
And what i think happens is people say or write things and hear themselves saying "i believe i am right", whereas everyone around them who is of a differing opinion hears "i think you are all wrong" (such as phrases like "certain things, revealed in Scripture, are immutable, unchanging, set in stone, finis")
i guess what i'm looking for is for people giving each other the space and privacy to believe what they will, without feeling that they need to convince others of their own beliefs

"i believe what i believe because i have questioned it many times not because i have been spoon fed something. i'm still not sure, but i want to hope for something bigger than myself and i have faith that i'm living the way i am supposed to be, just like you, even though we don't agree entirely."
Same here. I have never sat comfortably under the yoke of authority. I must always know why I am being told to do something. That questioning spirit ultimately led me back to the God of my youth, whom I thought I knew growing up – boy was I wrong. One can know ABOUT God whilst never knowing him personally.
I even find comfort in those areas in which God is yet wreathed in mystery. There is no way we could understand every single thing about a being that is omni—(pick your suffix).

I have no problem with people being religious at all. But I do wish American society was more tolerant and understanding of people who don't practice religion.
