i want it to be professional and respectable, but it needs to have warmth too, nothing too corporate.

I don't know why a doctor needs a website. Most information is looked up via insurance or directories.
Sorry, just throwing that out there as to why nobody has suggestions.

Any that I've come accross are either really clinical, which isn't what you're looking for, or they're like the example I posted above. maybe you could start something good here; a pioneer of sorts :)
- Maybe try looking for some dentist sites. I can imagine those being a little warmer for some reasonD_Dot

If your going for cancer specialist, I would probably browse around at some of the drugs treating some of the indications? That is probably geared closest to at least the persona you are looking at.

these are tricky subjects... I've been looking for good samples of podiatrists for a re-branding I'm doing and all I get is clip art feet logos....

It's tough, some things to consider are:
Put patients first - most likely they're gong to the site and already not feeling well, so making things harder on them will only drive them away.Find the right balance between "too happy stock people" and "real life not feeling too well" people. Pharmaceuticals is all about happy shiny things and patients want to feel like they can trust the doctor they're going to, not be sugar-coated.
Aesthetically, make it pleasing and calming.
I used to work for NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and Weill Cornell Medical College, worked on the sites listed above. It's great to design for something useful.
