Anyone made this step?
Should I or shouldn't I?I am drowning in work and it's really hard to manage on my own right now..
(also the longer term looks fairly promising now)What's next, partnership, staff, freelancers...?

I got interesting work nowadays as well, next to corporate stuff.
Today another meeting with an interesting artist who's even a friend of Crouwel, who sends him books and stuff, even the IDEA mag with the Crouwel special... oh the things i saw tonight on his table. niceness!

Good luck.
(I prefer a company for now. Benefits, pension, steady pay, etc. Later on I hope to continue working at a company, but also do some freelancing or personal projects on the side. Once I have my student loans in check and have saved up enough.)

tired being company slave.

Definetely take a break and freelance if your burned out. It is better than self-destruction and getting fired.

I just made that move, Janne. I'm still working my ass off, but it's really nice having someone on board to help.
Of course, now I HAVE to make payroll and that's a (big!) stress added to the mix. I say, it's now or never and now seems cool enough. Good luck.
On a practical standpoint, you're already keeping the books, etc., but an employee adds payroll taxes, benefits, HR, etc. I actually hired on someone part-time just to handle that.

I'm about to be do the reverse. It's good to hear you're not merely making due but succeeding.
imo, it seems like having all those options at your disposal can only be a good thing. Would let you turn down some work in favor of doing only the things you totally love.
Am I wrong?

In a similar situation going from contract to hire. Makes me reassess what job security is worth, or if it even exists these days.

Freelance is the way of the ronin – if you feel there's something wrong every time you listen to your boss, attend stupid meetings and fill in timesheets, then you should definitely try it ;)

Freelance company is the way to go...I have been doing it successfully for 2 1/2 years now. Saves on overheads and stuff so u make more.
