  My wife is in charge of a retreat with a 70K budget. that includes travel, resort stay, golfing, food and beverage, entertainment, key note speakers, etc, etc, etc, etc...
  She met with a designer that was going to come up with an identify package for the entire event and work with the foundation to help build a web page highlighting the event. The designer quoted it as a 2k job (which I think is a low ball quote) and my wife and her company decided that was too much to spend on design and that "design is unnecessary".
  Do you realized what I do for a living? How I get paid? How I pay the bills?
  You'll spend 70K on basically a free working vacation for people that make 6 figures but wont pay a designer 2k?
  Do you think most people think that design is unnecessary and we do this for fun/hobby?

  I would agree with your wife in this instance. sounds ridiculous to find someone to do a quality job on this when half assing it will get similar results and save some coin.

  it's a foundation that asks major corporations for money too, don't you think they should spend a little to look more professional?

  I mean 8.5x11" B&W laser paper with 60 pt Arial, an arrow and some power point clip art stick figures dancing and clapping isn't going to sell anything.

  It's a sad but common thing. I have friends that support me when I complain about clients not willing to pay and then turn around and pull the same shit when it comes to their own designers.
