For Flash designers-
I just found out last night that I need to brush-up on my Flash knowledge...
How do you make sure that the animation execution is perfect in flash, in other words a symbol moving does not look choppy or unreal, but looks smooth like in motion pictures.1) is it by controlling the amount of keyframes?
2) is it by changing some other settings? (always 12 fps right)
3) is it any other techniques?thanks, I couldn't find this type of info anywhere... seems like any tutorials are really basic stuff.

12fps? lol.
anyway, it depends on a shit load of things, that is far too broad a question to answer properly. be more specific about what you are trying to achieve.

I would recommend the following:
1) Use actionscript to control your tweening, I use http://laco.wz.cz/tween/
2) To get smooth animation change your frame rate to 25-30
3) There are many ways to skin a cat but if you search around online I am sure you can find some useful techniques.Hope that helped.
- so that's a good use for actionscript... good thanks.SoulFly

2) To get smooth animation change your frame rate to 25-30
is it not still 31 ?

The more frame rate you use the slower your site could get so don't go mad with the frame rate (I like 25 as a standard), I am not a flash wize but I remember I used to work with this chick who was good with Flash and she always told me to use 12fps but that was then and that was with Flash 5. If your site uses allot of images and effect the frame rate will make the animation run and look slow.
Again I am not a pro but that was my two cents.

I just slayed my personal dragon and finally got round to scripting some animation for an interface in flash, and it works. I'm so happy I could jump within a triangle

Some advice:
- Try to avoid as much as you can scenes, they are evil.
- Framerate: for pure scripting and small animation: 31fps, for heavy animation go with 24-25
- The tweening prototypes are cool, but they don't offer you the versatility of timeline animation. Mess around with that and discover which technique suits you best.

Tweener is the best actionscript tween I've used.
If you're animating bitmaps, be sure to set their "smoothing" property to true via the library. Double click the image > check the box.
If you're animating with vectors, you can optimize the shapes for better performance. Just don't go too crazy so you keep the integrity of the graphic. Modify > shape > optimize.
Also, anytime you change a symbols alpha while animating will use more processer power than simply moving it across the stage. If you have a video playing, animated elements will play slower. And of course these performance rules will vary depending on the users machine. Remember to design smart and keep the low end in mind without sacrificing the quality of the final product.
- those smoothing/optimize options... I would totally ignore them... never thought it would affect animation. thanksSoulFly
