The best AIDS awareness posters were the ones from the 80s in the UK. The ones that actually scared you into taking notice and wearing a condom, adverts that said AIDS KILLS! and not these airy fairy pornographic cartoon sh*te. They dont have a strong message at all.

I think the point of these is not to convey a grim message through fear, but to suggest that condoms are the vehicle for great sexual adventure. The sexual landscape has changed beyond belief since the emergence of Aids in the media in the 80's. It had a massive psychological impact on that generation and 30 somethings are generally held to be a generation that has grown up with sexual avoidance issues, sandwiched between the 60's/70's sexual liberationists and the new century's sexually accelerated youth.
Its the new youth this is aimed at. Messages of fear would not communicate to them at all.
