Does anybody else join a company and are really excited, but then after 6 or so months, think the grass is greener somewhere else??

ha, ha!! It's not that I'm not enjoying my job, it's great, but I always think there's something bigger, better!
Forcetwelve, what changed for you?
- neue75_bold0
indeed...
But, I don't believe in the grass being greener anywhere else, just a different shade of brown/dead...
I just tend to want to jump ship after 6 - 12 months out of habit now..

Absolutley, the novelty wore off after 3 and before I knew it its been 3.5 years.

There is a plant in the australian outback that if touched makes you itch for up to 6 months, ya know

Im a Landscape Architect - so this problem can be business suicide

Neue75_bold, I was like you, where I worked for a great agency for 2.5 years and then left and then it's never been the same. Whether the other agencies standards of design were not higher enough...and were not going to change, so 6-9months has been my jumping time. But i hope this job is going to be better. Although I am starting to think 'contracting' is greener and will add more spice to my life?
- greener? also you should have made their design standards higherer yourself.skt

the grass is always blacker on my side of the fence

Codername I always get this way too! Thought it was just me. It's tough when you start looking like your always jumping ship on your resume. Like 2 or 3 jobs in a row where you have only stayed 8 months or so. But it seems worse to me to suffer in a job you really don't like. I wonder sometimes with design and especially web work if this is acceptable?
Maybe it is a sign to do your own thing.

after 8 years at the same agency it gets a little itchy here and there.

As you say designbot, it doesn't look good on you resume. Hopefully my current job will keep me busy and enjoying design for a lot longer than the last 2 agencies did, but there lies another problem that if I don't want to carry on, the number of agencies in this area is so small!
Oh well, head down and time to work on some magic! Thanks for your feedback guys!

i was talking to a girl i had design classes with in college.. who "loved" her job 6mo. ago.. couldn't say enough good things about her position and the agency .. yesterday she told me she doesn't like it ... " i think i'm done with design " she said .. i was like 'huh' .. i think a lot of things factor into 'the itch' .. but .. everyone in general is always striving for the 'greener' grass
