That had to be the worst lecture I've ever been to. Dull as.
Yeah, nice work but potentially the most boring people ever. Jesus. And sorry, all that post-rationalisation bollocks, don't patronise me, saying some logo took inspiration from some french bloke who slashed canvases and I quote "to emphasis the thingness of the thing" what a load of utter bullshit. I was not impressed! Humph.

I thought the lecture was brilliant. The post-rationalisation just backed up their crafting and intelligent idea for the RNM logo. The consideration for using Frutiger typefaces for the rest of the identity was also inspired.
If you missed it, you missed out.

Sorry, I don't agree. So Adrian Fruitger designed the original logo. As part of the process they decided to use Univers for the corporate font and Courier for internal use ie setting letterheads etc because they were both designed by Adrian Fruitger and it would hold the project together. Well OK but if you're not a designer, who in the hell is gonna know that and who in the hell is gonna care?

Scribbler - It's a fair point, but I it gives the work integrity in terms of graphic design, which is important. Integrity in design, like integrity in architecture or fashion means that the end result is something you believe in and a better product.
I guess they could have just chosen Helvetica, but why?

i dont think thats quite the point
the logo is impeccable.
the shit was that they took WAY too long to rationalise it - (in essence they sliced a logo) - i'm not sure if i am even capable of dragging that out for 20 minutes talking about the logo BEFORE i even reach the 'i sliced the logo' part...awesome work - BUT - the are not presenters, they are designers, a lot of the people that do these presentations are front facing people used to the jazz hands approach, or at least confortable doing them. those guys do great work in their little studio - so they were slightly out of their depth explaining to a room with a thousand people in it.
which meant that although the work was flawless
the lecture was boring..end of

Oh, I thought the work was beautiful and I loved it (well most of it) and elpaso completely agree with what you're saying. Why in the hell did D&AD think it was a good idea to get them in to do a talk? It's all well and good being a fantastic designer but if you can't present for toffee then don't present, just design.
