2.2 gamma. 1.8 is a throwback to the 80's
sRGB Colourspace for screen, Adobe RGB colourspace for print.
pop open adobe gamma (in photoshop) and follow the steps. Make sure your hardware whitepoint matches your destination whitepoint.
...but good luck getting a Laptop to calibrate... they're not known for their screen quality. a $100 Pantone Huey would be a good investment.
- The screen is shit, but it's all I'll be using for quite a while.ismith

I've found it almost impossible to calibrate a monitor without any hardware...

stick to a 1.8 gamma

The only one I really care about is the main display, 17" MBPro Matte. The others don't matter so much for color accuracy.

what kind of display?

I don't have any hardware for it so I'm trying to calibrate my monitors the best I can through the "Display Calibrator Assistant". Any suggestions? More importantly, what gamma would you recommend for what kind of work?
