I Have filtered here and found not much. So could you help out?

DLink all the way I have installed three so far, one at my old work one at my ladies house and one at my house and they have all been great easy to install and work a tread cheap too, all three have been wireless with about five or six cat5 sockets at the back :D.

Why do you need a second router?
Sounds moe like you want a second wireless access point? (Or a longer range access point?) Or do you want more ethernet ports in the second room?
- My second room is a separate building all together and I only have one phone point in each buildingDancer
- (your LAN should usually only have one router, but can have lots of witches or wifi access pointsribit
- *switches
(witches may not be useful)ribit - ha
What exactly is a switch though?
sorryDancer - so its two separate ADSL connections (two separate BT lines?)ribit
- I have no Ethernet ports anywhereDancer
- A switch is basically just an extender (gives you more ethernet ports) nothing to configure...ribit
- Your BT router must have ethernet ports at the back (otherwise its not a router)ribit
- Sorry, yeah it does have ports but I do not have ports running to my external building. Just a phone lineDancer

but generally I'd say: Netgear.

I'd recommend whichever do-it-all model Netgear are now offering - I've used their stuff since about '00 without any problems, and a number of techies I know seem to prefer them.
That said, I think if you go with any of the big brands - Linksys, Cisco, D-link, whatever, I'm sure they'll do the trick just as ably.

Netgear is what I see in a number of studios/small offices.

anyone know about this:
802.11b/g
&
802.11n
- chossy0
Net gear looks good but if price and performance are your bench marks then Dlink is the shizzanitata shizzzz shiiiizzzzzzzyyyyyylaaaa shizzy shizzle for shizzle thizzle thin lizzy sizzle.

Ok so by the looks of it I need to just replace my BT box with a Dlink OR Netgear router that is configured for 802.11n and 802.11b/g.
Correct?
- ribit0
Yes get a D-Link or Netgear 802.11n wireless ADSL router (its the hardware capability, not configuration)
- ribit0
Its really 3 things in one box:
- ADSL modem (ADSL > ethernet)
- router (distributes IP addresses to the computers on your network whether on ethernet or wifi, and has 4 ethernet ports)
- wifi basestation

If you get the chance speak to a proper professional as well, all the advice given here I'd imagine is allot to do with personal experience, although detritus seems to know what he is on about....... first time for everyting eh?... next thing you know he'll have had real sex :D

Ok, Im interested in this topic too.
At home Ive got broadband thats a bit shit, its either 4 or 6mbs download speed on cable. Looking at the options here, theres no point in me spending a fortune on a top range wireless router here if I've got that kind of download right? So like a 54 Mbps one is fine?Or do I have this backwards?
- detritus0
It depends, Ian. If you're not using it to route between computers, then possibly not. Personally, I'd get whatever the next standard is, or what I could afford, as I'd not be able to say for sure what my needs in a year or two's time might be - especially if you later decide to add another computer or network HD into the fray.
One thing you want to check is whether the 'mbps' you're talking about have a big B or a little b - the former is about 8x faster than the latter (Bytes versus Bits).

Ah I see, didn't think of it in that way. I suppose ideally it'd be able to take two computers, both macs, for wireless use. Also considering getting a ps3 so could be used to go online with that. Whats a good deal thats not too pricey or what would you recommend?
