No, neue - perhaps I'm just misunderstanding what this PS thing does? I've wondered for a while whether there's a widget that contains a ready-made list of grid layouts for A4/5 page sizes. Basic stuff, like - there's obviously a nigh-on infinite variety that could be employed - I'm just after something I can roll out and click a button with when doing mundane stuff, then maybe add my own to.
I'm no shit hot layout maestro, so if I'm just being dumb, then fairdoes.

- me too, maybe it only works in cs2?_niko
- and for me, that's not handy. I wish PS had a similar option as InDesign. Layout > Create Guides.brains
- he says both 2 and 3 but I'm on 2 so I don't knowkelpie
- me to Brains, but this is the closest I could findkelpie
- He said he tried it on the CS3 Beta. So maybe something changed.brains

sorry to leave you hanging Nairn, I was out having dinner and such...
but in illy it's quite easy to just use a text box to set your columns, gutter and rows then create your grid/guides based on that...
My only beef with PS is you can't create multi-column text boxes so you have to use the calculator or do in another program first, so hopefully this will solve that....

haha.
its easy to use but i just use a 960 12 column and ram the shit in.

OK, so this has prompted me to look through Illy a little deeper, so I'm now ashamed to admit that I've NEVER used the Paragraph Options, Area Type options or Paragraph Styles. These minor sections would've saved me quite a bit of time and grief over the years had I bothered to investigate them.
My method for making grids has always been to set a Grid that has cels that approximately fit into the page, then I score off the typo grid with a mess of guides, using the cel sizes for guttering, etc. But, basically doing it all by hand (thankfully, I've never had to do more than an 8 page booklet).
So, erm.. I feel like a bit of a mug.
On the plus side, I think I can probably forget having to buy inDesign in the near future, like I thought I might - the things I've learned here should more than suffice for doing a 24 page booklet, right?
Still, given that there are only so many combinations achievable on any given piece of paper, I don't think it's too outlandish to imagine there's some sort of widget to aid grid creation though. Nor would it be that necessary either, in light of the above. Ho Hum.
Thanks for your input, neue, even if I do feel like a bit of a tool right now.

Why would you make an 8 page booklet in photoshop?
